And now...in my best Jimmy Swaggart voice...
Praise the almighty, brother and sisters of the brush, for I have found enlightenment. In another of his strange and wondrous ways, I have been shown the truth. In conversation with a customer, there was a message given to me, and I have come here today to share that message with you.
My brothers and sisters, this poor soul came to me with little in ways of money and behest of me that I to make him some vinyl for his race car. He was not a proud man and did not require that I assist him in his efforts to look professional, but rather, was more concerned to simply appease those few people who had given him financial assistance, his sponsors.
But he spoke with the devil's language. No, he did not curse, nor did he speak ill of me, yet it was subtle, as is the evil one's way.
"I only need..." "I just want..." "It doesn't have to..." "I don't want..."
Praise the lord and pass the peanut butter, I had my epiphany!
No longer shall I let those who would look upon what I do with disdain. Neither shall they submit my will by minimizing both their need and my worth. If they, or others like them, should darken my door again and until the end of days, I will not shut them out, but open my heart to them....and double the bill.
Yes, the almighty works in strange and wondrous ways....but I do this stuff for money. Charity starts at home.....
Can I have an "Amen"?

Maybe that was the bloke who asked me for some free blue flames, so I gave him your email address, telling him you had a good source for free work!

And my all time favorite, "It shouldn't take you long...." How does he know how long it will take!! This, coming from the guy who has a $20,000 trailer for his race car and about $10,000 worth of tires and tools in it and he is trying to get us to give him a "deal" on his lettering!!!

I get to see both sides of it being I have the business that I do. I see the guys that have NO problem spending the money for a 24,000.00 engine, 1500. for a clutch assembly...Shocks that are now a grand a piece...and then get "what is the cheapest firesuit I can get?" ..and.. "Is there a cheaper helmet I can get?" Most of this is from the guys that are struggling just to eat after buying fuel and tires.
Thoughts of going fast have no bearing on the fact that they NEED protection to be able to do whatever it is they do next week.
I letter a few cars, I've cut back from what I used to, but I've kept my best customers. The 4 customers I have have a combination of 21 cars between them. I also paint the bodies...lots of crashin', or job security. I don't sponsor, nor do they expect it.
I even have my own keys and alarm codes at 2 of the shops.
A lot of the local guys have bought plotters now they are a dime a dozen. The ideas that they come up with just leaves me speachless at times.I can see the work at the tracks and boy does it show. :-)
