The Oilers were a disappointment this year. All can say is TG Calgary got bounced by Detroit. I couldn't handle those Calgary car pennants running around Edmonton like we did a couple of years ago... that just aint right. Go Sharks!!!

We start Round two in Detroit tomorrow. My daughter's school play had better be darn good to make up for my missing the first game!

Wasn't Friday night's game a thriller? Today's game is making me nauseous already. The nerves are coming up. One more win and Ottawa awaits...

Dale Jr. wouldn't last 10 seconds playing with junior A players let alone playing with real men.

An Ottawa Senator fan, a Buffalo Sabres fan and a Detroit Red Wing fan were all in Saudi Arabia, sharing a smuggled case of alcohol. All of a sudden Saudi police rushed in and arrested them. The mere possession of alcohol is a severe offence in Saudi Arabia, so for the terrible crime of actually being caught consuming the alcohol, they were sentenced to death!
However, after many months and with the help of very good lawyers, they were able to successfully appeal their sentence down to life imprisonment. By a stroke of luck, it was a Saudi national holiday the day their trial finished, and the extremely benevolent Sheik decided they could be released after receiving just 20 lashes each of the whip. As they were preparing for their punishment, the Sheik suddenly said:
"It's my first wife's birthday today, and she has asked me to allow each of you one wish before your whipping."
The Detroit Red Wing fan was first in line (he had drunk the least), so he thought about this for a while and then said: "Please tie a pillow to my back."
This was done, but the pillow only lasted 10 lashes before the whip went through. The Detroit Red Wing fan had to be carried away bleeding and crying with pain when the punishment was done.
The Buffalo Sabres fan was next up (he almost finished a half-can), and after watching the scene, said: "All Right! Please fix two pillows on my back." But even two pillows could only take 15 lashes before the whip went through again, sending the Buffalo Sabers fan crying.
The Ottawa Senators fan was the last one up (he had finished off the case), but before he could say anything, the Sheik turned to him and said: "You support the greatest team in the world, your country has the best and most loyal hockey fans in the world. For this, you may have two wishes!"
"Thanks, your Royal highness", the Ottawa Senators fan replies. "In recognition of your kindness, my first wish is that you give me not 20, but 100 lashes."
"Not only are you an honorable man, you are also very brave," the Sheik says with an admiring look on his face. "If 100 lashes is what you desire, then so be it. And your second wish? What is it to be?" the Sheik asks.
"Tie the Buffalo Sabres fan to my back so he can get his ass whooped again."

At least you could spell Sabres correctly. Then again, what would one expect from a Senators fan?

Not fair to judge a series by one game. The Sabres have way too much talent. Let's wait and see.

Some thoughts I had while humming the HIC theme song out loud...
Ron, as a Maple Leaf fan, you have my condolences... I used to watch the Leafs every Saturday night and they never failed to disappoint. I remember the days of Jacques Plante, Borje Salming, Davey Keon, Ron Sittler, Mike Palmateer, Doug Favell (with the big Maple Leaf on his forehead), Norm Ullman, Jim Dorey, Bruce Gamble, the list is endless... The time will be endless of futility until the management makes a decisive move and gives Ferguson some real power to do what needs to be done instead of micromanaged to death.
I wouldn't judge a series outcome by one game, Ken. Too many errors and some good breaks broke that one open. At least my team wasn't out of the playoff hunt by late February, eh?
Hey, Rene, wanna bet a panel on the series? I still say the Sabres in seven...

Bruce I have to say Buffalo is full of talent and I could see them going all the way if they can get past Ottawa.I really thought Buffalo had the team to beat this year. One game is not a tell tale sign of how the series will play out but it is huge win on Buffalos home ice.Buffalo was a step behind all game.I think Ottawa has a bit more experience now as they reflect back over the last few years .I'm expecting a tough close series just the same.Briere is a game buster if he can get going. Weep!Weep!Weep my Leafs missed the playoffs again! They did have a great last couple months ,but their bad slide around Xmas just finished them.Always next year and lots of hope! Should be a great game Saturday though!Buffalo really needs to win this one. Detroit took a bite out of the Ducks ,but I think that series is going to even out fast.Ducks are too strong talent wise I think. Team Canada plays the Swedes today in the semi finals at the Worlds and Russia plays Finland. Some good hockey to watch! Ron.
