How things change Raymond.
We went through Temple on our way home from Mexico on Wednesday and were still in shorts and sandles. On Thursday we added jeans and yesterday we were in our winter outfits. Woke up this morning to 6" of snow.
What a change!! Left Progreso Sunday in 85 degree weather and got home last night to 19 degrees.

This was taken 3 weeks ago after a winter of no snow we got 36" over a span of a week. That snow was just about melted when we got 14" on Tuesday. It was snowing last nite and about 7 degrees. Last week I was lettering trucks in the driveway where this picture was taken in my tee shirt, it was 76 degrees. So much for global warming.

Wow Raymond, now I really feel left out, after a solid week of badly needed rain,we missed out on the snow in KS but are gettin' hit with 3 nights of hard freezes (highs in the mid 30's, lows in the low 20's).
W.R., our seedlings are not only in trouble, looks like the wheat crop may take quite a hit as well.
Col. Dick, is that cannon buried in all that snow on top of your truck?
And Dan, is it true that any jealousy you harbor is really directed at Raymond's automatic tool changer since he can have a conversation with his while yours just sits there & does nothing but change bits once in awhile?

Chris- the cannon was safely stored in the barn, and the powder kept dry in the shop were always prepared. We have used it on occasion for avalanche prevention and for fending off the timber wolves coming in from the woods, load er up with roofing nails and you can take out half a pack.

...and not just CNN... but Fox news also has had quite a bit of news this week backing up the facts & the concerns surrounding the actual effects of global warming already upon us, as well as those projected by the majority of bipartisan tems of the worlds scientists.
Funny though... politics does seem to inhibit some folks from hearing these facts... good thing the United Nations is working to legislate change throughout the world so that a proper response to the current situation will happen, no matter how many people want to keep their head in the sand. We had snow here in Carrollton (just North of Dallas on I-35E) yesterday. This morning, my father and step mother headed North to Wisconsin where it is warmer.

I used Si's comment to inspire me to look up what I had heard only briefly on the news the other day, but in my interest in countering his offhand comment, I didn't actually read the entire article.
Now I can attribute my inspiration to read that entire report to Glenn's comment.
Where I had mentioned the U.N. I really should have referred to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The impact their findings present for the Letterville Weather Channel is as great as it is for any part of the planet.
One of the most significant aspects of the current news on their findings is the conflict between scientists & diplomats at editing the report prior to it's official release.
This is where the U.N. was mentioned in that story. Yvo de Boer, a diplomat who is the top climate official for the United Nations explained how allowing diplomatic interests to water down the severity of the scientific data in the report, was the lesser of evils if it resulted in a report that was accepted by each Nation present, and the report still warned of the scientific fact of global warming having increasingly serious negative consequences for the planet.
Don't even try to make this issue political. It's sad that even on a global scale, there are political interests that can pressure the scientific community into watering down a report, but among ourselves, the facts of global warming are a discussion about the weather, not about politics.
How to address those concerns may become political & therefore not appropriate here... but accepting the facts evident around us & confirmed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is as basic as admitting the earth is round. You can go on record here as believing the earth is flat... but don't expect anyone to take you serious anymore.
quote: The report doesn't commit countries to action, like the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, but those involved agree that the science is accurate and that global warming is changing the planet and projected to get much worse.

The problem with the IPCC report is that it is seriously flawed and is nothing but politics. It has even been criticized by one of its lead authors, Richard S. Lindzen of MIT.
Concensus is not science. It is politics. For one, the majority of those scientists don't even study in that particular field. Second, each scientist only wrote a few pages giving their POV. The pages were then compiled and edited by government officials, not the scientists.
Don't even try to make this issue political. It's sad that even on a global scale, there are political interests that can pressure the scientific community into watering down a report, but among ourselves, the facts of global warming are a discussion about the weather, not about politics.
Ever considered how the majority of these "scientists" get their funding?

Glenn, you always make your posts sound as though you know what you are speaking about, which you may... but to your credit, you are also good about sharing your sources.
I don't know about the IPCC... I just know that Global Warming has been in the news lately without some tired old democrat's name dragged around with it...
so I went to CNN... & then remembered I should change that to FOX to get last weeks news.
There are several news reports on both networks last week that say the same thing I pasted... but you cite a 6 year old story to refute it? Sorry, you have to do better then that.
How do the scientists get funding? ...from the powers that be?
...then shouldn't today's scientists be saying what you want to hear?

We enjoyed a nice sunny weekend while everyone down south got snow flurries. That's too much!
In the '60s they were doing shows on the ice age and how scientists said it was starting again! I remember watching a show that said snow was not melting all summer in northern canada and this was the beginning of the new North American Ice Sheet!
40 years later they are talking about Global Warming and a new Ice age.
Massive Climate change is nothing new. A thousand years ago the Vikings were able to leave IceLand and move to Greenland, they were able to plant crops and raise animals there until the "little ice age" around 1300. When it got too cold they had to retreat back to Iceland.
In 1815 mt tambora erupted with excessive amouts of ash. It caused the year with no summer in 1816 when crops failed all over the world.
So one good volcano could chage all the global warming news to global cooling news! that might be inconvenient.

Research scientist get their funding from various sources - environmental groups, business and the government.
My point is that there is a problem when scientists say something as "fact" on matters that are not related to their field of study which is what happened to the IPCC report which should not be confused with the IPCC report summary which was written by UN officials.
The actual IPCC report is a compilation of papers written by various scientists the majority of whom have written outside their field of study. Of the few scientists who's field is meteorology and atmospheric sciences, they have all been critical of the Summary which is where most of the media et al make their claims.

The last snow of any size here in our part of Texas was 1982 and this one was even heavier....and on Easter. It was only the third time in history (at least record keeping history) that it has snowed in April
Because the trees already had leaves it built up quickly and we started to loose limbs. Saturday night you could hear cracking all over our neighborhood and the transformers blowing due to the weight on the power lines. We lost electricity about 9:00, but it was restored Sunday afternoon. Cool night and a real adventure getting ready for church with no heat or light.
Mike was still without electricity last night.
It was really unusual to see our Texas bluebonnets covered with white stuff.
This morning the snow is already all gone and it is supposed to be up in the 60's again.
I know you folks who have snow all the time are wondering what all the fuss is about. Snow just doesn't happen here very often, and especially not on easter. There were a a lot of Easter Bunny "snowmen" around town yesterday.

I didn't get to go visit my family in Lexington, KY until this week... and so it snowed while we were there- it was like Christmas at Easter. My step dad was trying to cover up everything that was blooming...Hope he saved the strawberries.

I'll take the blame. I'm sorry, I must have brought it down with me. Now I'm back home and it's going to snow some more here starting tonight.
How do you like that. I go from snowy Michigan to Texas and watch my grandson hunting Easter eggs with snow flakes falling.
Sorry Ray, I really wanted to get over to your shop. Turns out you are 2 1/2 hours form my daughter's house and I just didn't have the time this trip.

My dad made it safely back to Wisconsin, driving the last 250 miles in near blizzard conditions. There's several inches of snow on the ground where he's at.
I think the global warming will kick back in the next time the politicians meet to discuss it.
