Whoo hoo! Looks good John. Sit tight man. It's coming. Think of it as a time to catch up on other things. And get caught up because you won't have time by next week.

Dang John, I just mapped your place and you appear to be in the middle of nowhere! How far is it to the nearest bigger city? Anyway, have you been out visiting the contractors that are gearing up for the summer season? What about just going door to door with your portfolio in hand and handing out cards? Did you stop by city hall to see if there are any building permits being pulled? Does your town have any "welcome to" signs? If not why not? What about investigating local, county and state projects? https://emars.ky.gov/online/vss/Advantage
Havin' fun,
Checkers
p.s. I really like the new site!

My heart goes out to you John. Just keep hanging on as long as you can...it will turn around.
When one door closes another one opens...it's just being in that hallway that's the pits.
When we were in the same position we just kept making proposals and contacting old established accounts. It always seemed that when our backs were against the wall that one more small job would appear to keep the wolf away. He's still there nipping at our heels but just not as scary now.
I've never liked cold calls, but sometimes just dropping in to say "hi" to old friends can produce a lead.
Don't panic. The wolves can smell fear. And fear is contagious.
None of this helps your situation, I know, but at least you have the comfort of knowing that the rest of us have been right where you are...many times. And we are still here plugging away.

John, I e-mailed you a couple of weeks ago about a big project I'm working on but got no reply. I assumed you weren't interested, so I got somebody else to help me. He made $80 an hour for very easy work - no digging, no ladders.
My apologies if you didn't get the e-mail, but if you did, maybe it's time to quit crying in your beer.

I'm also in the middle of nowhere and sometimes it gets terribly slow.
I just want to make one suggestion: This is probably about the third time that I remember, that someone mentiones not getting through to you. What if this happens to your customers? It's obviously not the quality of your work that keeps people away, maybe they just can't reach you when they need to?
I wish you best of luck and hope sincerely that you will be able to stay in the business and do what you love to do.

No Lottie, my doors are open and I answer all my calls when Im here. Being a one man shop, if Im out on an install or working on site, I have to let my answering machine get my calls. I dont let any jobs get by me if I can help it.

John, one thing I do to ensure not missing that big call, is to "call forward" the business line to my cell phone when I'm going to be away from the shop.
If I'm still busy or on a ladder, at least I can get back to them sooner.
