Hey Gang, is there a way to call up a PMS color on my screen in Sign Lab and know that it will print right on our Roland Soljet. We have a very large job to do for Six Flags and we need to match PMS colors. Any help is greatly appreciated.

what i do rob is get the ratios..ya know for the rgb or cmyk and match it that way. but then again i use colordraw x3 and its awesome for the different pms color chart. i'm not familar with signlab, i can't imagine it won't let you create a color that way.

I printed out a CMYK-PMS colour chart so that the PMS in my software program(s) matches what comes out of my printer. I have a PMS colour chart and physically check the colour against what I have on MY printed colour chart.I do an Evironmental match and make a small colour proof before printing anything large, just in case. There are so many variables. Generally the darker colours are pretty much bang on, but beiges and tans and taupes can go a little wonky.

You know, I just had a customer that needed to match a certain purple, and my Versacam 540 would not match. I even have a CMYK color Chart Printed and Hangning in my office and it wouldn't match that either. I guess there is not printer in the world that can match every PMS color. So I hear anyway, but I did end up getting it after printing it numerous times. Trial and Error is sometimes the best way to learn!!!

The best most dead on method is to use a cmyk grid rpinted from your machine. I probably have 50+ 2x4 grids printed out on every media with the various printer settings I use as well as laminated and non laminated. If your lucky it wont be illuminated since that throws a whole mess of wrenches in the works. Also, depending on the media ( I use mainly 3M and Avery), most will offer an offical ICC profile to match their various medias. They can be downloaded from websites. A pantone colorbridge book is also handy for those odd colors that are outside the cmyk color gamute(sp?) and need to be printed in a RGB method. Anything you can do to limit the millions of variables to under a handful is worth its weight in gold.

Robert. If you are using Signlab 7.1 there is a add on Module for PMS color matching. I was playing with it in the Demo and seemed to work pretty well.. Your Soljet is the six head/Color version Right?

Rob, Go to Options/Palette/Edit Palette in SignLab. Select CMYK, then change the formula to match your PMS color. I am using SignLab 5.0 so the tools could be located differently if you are using a later version of SignLab. Hope this helps. Judy

Hey Rob, Get yourself the Pantone Color Bridge... http://pantone.com/Pages/Products/Product.aspx?pid=293&ca=1 It gives you the CMYK equivelents to a lot of the PMS colors. Oh, and don't buy it from Pantone, just about any sign distributor should sell it for around $100.
Havin' fun,
