"An Inconvenient Truth" narrated by Al Gore;

It's worth seeing, I strongly believe, whether you agree or not, just take a look. Thanks, Deb

Have you ever read the book, "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn?

Darn it Brooce, my brother is a lawyer!

Anytime I get too chilly I just go outside and spray Renuzit to warm things up.

And I like Ishmel from Kingpin, and Ishmael from Moby Dick.

Hey Deb,

I saw Al Gore's film. It's pretty astounding to know that the US is in last place compared to all the other developed nations when it comes to emissions standards. *China* has stricter emissions requirements than the US and that's a scary thought.

I couldn't stand Al as a politician but this time around he seems a more likeable guy. [Smile]

Eye opening movie. I saw it last year.

It's odd that people are more focused on the messenger (dispite Gore's dedication to this issue) than they are on the message.

Global warming is not discriminating, nor political, or bias. It effects everyone.

Saw it, believe it, thought Al was good. We need to get our head out of the sand. They're climbing on board down this way, Deb, with wind energy and ethanol plants.

Where there's money to be made ...

You should see the size of one of the blades on one of those wind mills. They're so heavy that they tear up the gravel roads in the country. So to get them to the site, the wind energy companies are having to redo the roads after they tear them up.

I want a little one for my house. They would look cool with some graphics.

The documentary won an academy award, and offers insights and information to something that I believe is very real. Like Nettie said, people are more focused on the messenger, who is an extremely intelligent person, although maybe not a great politician. [Smile]
HE is working towards something POSITIVE though. [Applause]

I have a confession to make. I suffer from aquanetisism. It has been diagnosed as a result of cabin fever. Late in the winter when I just can't take it anymore, I go out in the back yard and spray cans of Aqua Net (its cheap) and dream of a day that I can plant palm trees in my yard.
(just kidding).
I believe that global warming is real. I don't know if I believe that we are the sole proprietor of it. This schtuff happened over and over again long before we were mechanically inclined. Did you see the movie Ice Age? If you didn't its a hoot. A must see! The sloth makes me cry. [Rolling On The Floor] Anyhow, I believe that we are contributing, but I doubt we are the sole cause.

Haven't seen it yet. I just told Kay last night we ought to go rent it, however, it is to be on showtime Sunday I believe. I may wait until then to watch it if I'm home.

I know what I need to know Pat.
Hitchcock was probably misunderstood cause he was a little weird a** that made good movies.
During the years of his movies, the quality of movies being made were great. His competition was very high quality. When Marisa won hers, more than likely the competition that year wasnt as great. All depended on when I guess.
These were the nominees this year in the category Al GOre won for.

“Deliver Us from Evil” (Lionsgate)
A Disarming Films Production
Amy Berg and Frank Donner
“An Inconvenient Truth” (Paramount Classics and Participant Productions)
A Lawrence Bender/Laurie David Production
Davis Guggenheim
“Iraq in Fragments” (Typecast Releasing in association with HBO Documentary Films)
A Typecast Pictures/Daylight Factory Production
James Longley and John Sinno
“Jesus Camp” (Magnolia Pictures)
A Loki Films Production
Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady
“My Country, My Country” (Zeitgeist Films)
A Praxis Films Production
Laura Poitras and Jocelyn Glatzer

It doesnt belittle the quality of Al Gores documentary.

Maybe people will need their arses to start on fire before they'll yank their heads out of the sand....but most likely not.

At the very least we could all try to take a little better care of the home we live on.....not sure about anyone else but I don't see many other choices out there to relocate to?

Maybe take a run up to the Columbia Ice Fields in Jasper Park....as you drive down the long road to get near the glacier you'll notice the (Glacier was here in 1920...etc) SIGNS from years gone by as to where the glacier used to be.....probably all just a normal melting cycle though!

800 billion pollution spewing machines are totally natural....no worries Mate!

Making an absolute concrete conclusion about "global warming" based on impirical data gathered over the past 1000 years is incomplete to say the least. 1,000 years seems like a LONG time to us humans but geologically speaking (the language of the planet and universe), it's not even a "tic" of the clock. throughout the life of our planet we have experienced extremes of warming and cooling. "Only" 10,000 years ago you could snow ski from the north pole to Florida. Global weather is cyclic and fairly predictable. I'm not going to buy into "the sky is falling"; I just don't think a warming trend of a couple of degrees can be accurately attributed to our abuse of the planet or that it certainly means the meltdown of the polar ice caps and we're all gonna die. Yeah, the glaciers are melting; I see it everytime I go to Alaska. But it's happened time and time again and we weren't here to take the blame. Did the planet recover? Yes and we will again. I'm not falling for all the hype and sensationalism; I do my own thinking and I'm pretty well educated in the sciences, biology and chemistry. I'm not saying that we should not actively persue (like our tails were on fire) hydrogen powered vehicles or curb greenhouse gasses or pollution; I'm just saying that I'm not going to lose sleep over it or get an ulcer thinking about it. I am totally in favor of being responsible for our actions and not letting corporate greed ruin our planet but I'm not worried about us getting to the point of no return. I know you all have your opinons and I respect whatever that happens to be; I just wanted to share my opinon. As far as Al Gore goes... he's a politician, right? nuff said.

...Our neighbor planet VENUS is totally obscured by a thick layer oif chemical clouds. And this is exactly what is going to happen to our home the EARTH if we don't stop pumping pollution into OUR atmosphere and environment.

...It is amusing that conservatives are so into denying global warming due to their hate of Al Gore. This issue could be really funny if the future of our grand children and life on EARTH were not at stake.

I agree with what Ricky said...

I've read Newsweek articles from back in the 70's when everyone was talking about "Global Cooling" and the theory that the Ice Age was on it's way back because of the year by year cooling trends...

There was even talk about trying to melt the ice caps and all kinds of crazy things to ward off the impending doom.

Now we have a few warmer years, and "Global Warming" is going to destroy our planet. Well folks, our planet has had a lot more trauma than a few cow farts in its day, and we still have oxygen to breath and ability to grow food.

Considering the amount of gases and sheer area our atmosphere... To say we are affecting it to the point of danger is like saying I contaminated the Gulf of Mexico by peeing in it last summer...

Just wondering if the folks on here commenting on this movie, have actually seen it?

If not, how informed could your comments really be about it? And, ...are your comments on global warming just as informed? [Roll Eyes]

No one is saying the sky is falling, or that we are loosing sleep over it. Al Gore doesn't even have that approach in his documentary. But being aware of it, and making some moves towards change is the real message.

I haven't seen the movie but I wasn't commenting on that. I don't know that seeing the movie would change my mind about what I see as the truth. I had forgotten about the 70's until Jon posted about it.

Remember the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989? They said it would take over 100 years to recover from that spill. In 1997 went fishing in Prince William Sound, out of Valdez; that's 8 years later from the mathmatically challenged; and there was almost no evidence that the spill anywhere.

Remember when Mt. St. Helens blew up in 1982? They said it would be at least 50 years before the land would be back to normal - wrong again! It's been 25 years (man has time flown!) and, with the exception of no HUGE spruces, everything is right back to normal.

Remember the smoke jumpers that lost their lives trying to put out a fire in the Mann Gulch fire in Montana? There wasn't any risk to human life there other than the smoke jumpers who put their lives in jeopardy. 10 men were dead within 90 minutes of jumping and three more died from their burns. So it burns 30,000 acres of scrub and sage; what's the big deal? It happens every year, several times a year; it's all part of nature and it'll grow right back next year. You can't fight nature and win; nature is just too big.

Don't get me wrong, I'm passionate about "saving the planet" but pardon me if I don't believe everything I'm told. I know enough about things to know there are hidden agendas and lies and the environmentalism is a huge part of it. Now excuse me while I go home and cook up some spotted owls. You are very right John. What my friends choose to believe has absolutely no bearing on if they are my friend or not. I haven't seen the movie but I wasn't commenting on it.

I saw this post on here last night. Night for me is about 4am. There was only 3 responses at that time, so I put it off, intending to contact Deb today before deleting it.

Entertainment Tonight and I have a deal. They won't discuss boring stuff I find interesting, like signs and the people that love making them. In return, we've agreed to try and stay out of religion, politics, Anna Nicole, dope smoking, and all the rest of the stuff they specialize in.

Come on Letterheads. These OT posts attract a pile of readers, but nobody is learning anything. There's nothing wrong with that once in awhile, but there has to be a balance.

Imagine if everyone who posted under this contributed a Step By Step, a helpful tip, or anything else those Letterheads still alive in the Future can come here to read. [Smile]
