Are you using Pantone grays?..and they aren't matching? Or are you chosing a gray from some other color palette.

I just printed out a 2x Pantone color palette samples in VersaWorks. Both in GCVP profile but one is using the "PRE-Press" color management and the other is using the "Sign & Display". I have them hanging on the door. The one using Sign and Display are much more vibrant colors.

Already this morning I had to match a gray and found it so much earier to take the customer's artwork up to the printed palette and match the gray that was needed.

I have the same problem with our 540 and hear that the problem exists with other brqand machines as well. Try samples with all your different profiles. Some will do much better than others. Once you find one that gives you a good grey, you might have problems with other colors though [Frown]

The problem is choosing the right profile with the right material/media.

Roland has profiles for Roland materials.
When you go to printing on OraJet or something else, then everything changes, and you have to try every freaking profile and hope one matches.

The materials may look like the same white (Roland's vs other brands, but thats not the only factor. The ink reacts differently with the different materials and then there is the heating factor which changes everything.

Make sure you have downloaded the current Roland Profiles and then Make sure you update your printer's "FIRM WARE".

Start using the proper profile with the proper material, and if you susbstitute (like 3M Control tack with comply) then you better hope one of the existing profiles works. The only way to figure it out is to print a strip of boxes that colored from black to lighter shades of gray.

Then print that row of colored boxes, choosing a different profile each time and write it down on the print . It will take all day... [Smile]
