For those of you that may be spraying latex paint, how do you do it so that the paint doesn't splatter coming out of the gun. (Using gravity feed HVLP). I have tried thinning with just water and that seems to help a little but I am worried about going to far. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

We put the Floetrol Jill mentioned and some water. We kick the pressure up to around 45-50 PSI even though the gun says not to do so. I am fond of Coronado RustScat Acrylic Latex Enamels but it should work with any product. The biggest thing we found was kicking up the pressure allowed us to keep from thinning the paint so much.

I sprayed it alot back in texas on some blue foam latters, that is a sin i know, we just turned up the pressure, it came out a little orange peely but it flattened out pretty nice from 20 feet or so.
I never even heard of the Floetrol till i moved up here to Kentucky, I still need to try some one day.
Let me know how it worked for ya.

Just an update. Thanks to all for the advice. the Floetrol did help with the spraying. Here are a couple photos of the results. The black is Sherwin Williams Super paint and the gold(which looks green in the flourescent lights) is OneShot Metallic Brass.

I have always had a hard time spraying latex and getting it to come out the same every time. I broke down and bought a hvlp system run off of a turbine thing and a gun set up specifically for latex. Just got it I will let you know how it works out. J

I too have been very curious on the latex procedures. Here is my second sign finishing up using the Valspar line. Still am not happy with the orange peel affect. I would like to see alot smoother job. Sam

Try the Floetrol that was recommended to me. Play around with the ratio to get something that works for you. I did end up adding just a little water also. Home Depot carries Floetrol by the way.
