I have had two projects on the go for some time now, thought I'd let you guys have a look at what I'm up to and see what your thoughts were!! This is the logo from 06 Napier Letterheads. I only have to put paua sheets in the lines between the gold, plus some jewels in the corners that I have gilded.
I'm a huge fan of dragons and woke up one morning with this image bursting to get out of me!! I sat down and drew the outline then transferred it onto the glass in black enamel. I'm incredibly excited about this project as I haven't seen anything else like it done with gold! I've got heaps to do on this one, I will keep posting as i progress through it.
I only get to work on these kinds of things once per week. It's very hard getting my 40 hour a week vinyl job done when all I am thinking aobut is working on this!!
Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say! Any advice or critique is appreciated!

They are both stunning Anne, I can't wait to see the dragon, it really is unique. I know what you mean when you say that image was sursting to get out of you. You are a very talented girl. How is the word Letterheads done in your first pic?

thanks guys!! Nice to see you here Mr Meyers, how's that gorgeous niece of yours?
Kelly, the letters are done with six shades of one shot enamel. I made a cardboard template and drew on the angled lines then painted those fine lines in first then bacjed up with darker shades on the left and lighter on the right. it was an idea that my friend Jeff Harvey had, I'm his guinea pig!!
The gold I did a damar macaroni scroll first. It's not easy to see in the lines at the top but I masked off a central strip and painted in damar varnish, I removed the mask then drew cirles with my wee stick. It dragged the varnish around into the clear areas and created quite a nice effect.
I love to experiment, hence the dragon!!
Thankyou for all of your nice compliments, they inspire me to keep on doing these things!

LOVE the dragon Anne! Can't wait to see the finished product!
I like your panel too, but I must say the shading on "Letterheads" is totally confusing to my eyes.
Is it me? Or am I being a picky old "phart"?
I just don't see six shades of one shot enamel in there so it's possibly the photo at fault. But to me the strength and placement of the shading is not correct anyway.
Think about it. Pick a light source ... usually top left and imagine where the shadows are going to fall for 3d effects in lettering.

I hear what you are saying jon, the photo doesn't show the shades and it was an experimental effect. I will do it differently the next time I work on something like this, stronger contrasts between the six shades and a different placement regime.
I love to try new things and I'm really pleased with how this looks!
Thankyou for your critique, I appreciate everyones opinions and learn from them all!
