Topic: Question About Doing a "Mc" Name

I'm going to be doing some formed plastic lettering of the name "McCarthy" and I'm not sure about how to do it. This name will be listed with a number of other names already done in all caps, and I want to be consistent. Is it appropriate to do it as: A.) MCCARTHY B.) McCARTHY Any suggestions? Thanks! -------------------- Tim Whitcher Adrian, MI

(B) is the only way and I say this in a country where there are thousands of McCarthys -------------------- Miles Cullinane, Cork, Ireland. From the sometimes sunny south of Ireland,

Definately B, but if every thinmg is all caps use a shorter cap C not a lower case c. -------------------- Bill Lynch Century Sign Hamden, CT centurysign@snet.net

B looks better. Don't you hate it when people have "Mc" at the beginning of their last names? It's just trouble for everyone. -------------------- Russ McMullin Tooele, UTwww.mcmullincreative.com My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone.

As a Mc myself I've always like to see the "B" version!! -------------------- Anne McDonald 17 Karnak Crescent Russley Christchurch 8042 New Zealand "I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure"

I like "B", but I always ...well, almost always...raise the first "C" level with the top of the line. Then again, I'm old fashioned. You could get really old fashioned and do the "M'Carthy" thing, then nobody knows if you're spelling it wrong, like those people with the Golden Arches, or come to think of it, like Anne. I do apologise Mr MacDonald!! I'll let my Father in law know his Daddy got it wrong somewhere!! Ah, Annie, my sweet colleen, there's no need to apologizin' for bein' Irish atall, atall. My own dear mother had a touch of the shamrock, and after all, it was the Irish who drove the Picts out of Scotland. And they do make a fine whisky! I aggree with "B" also....with the small "c" raised or not. I normally raise the "c" when using my name, but it's probably a personal preference. -------------------- Ace Graphics & Printing Camdenton, MO. USA acegraphics1@sbcglobal.net

Tim, use "B". I believe the origin of the prefix Mc means "son of" in old english/Irish, etc. So McCarthy would be the son of "Carthy" in the old days. Take it from me, MC, since 1979 Mike -------------------- Mike Clayton M C Grafix Custom Lettering New Jersey (again)
