I have a job to do for a new subdivision in town.

I need to submit a logo (for their brochures, letterheads, etc) and use the final for the entranceway monument.

I'm not looking for logo suggestions or layout ideas, just how YOU would finish the final lettering on the sign.

It will be a monument sign - about 18' across - viewed from up to 200' down to 25 feet.

The name of the subdivision is CRYSTAL LAKES.

I'm gonna quote it with gold leaf, obviously, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas for a different finish on the letters.

Thanks ahead of time...

NOTHING looks as good, or lasts as long as gold!

If thier budget will allow gold, why would you consider anything else?

And if the budget won't allow gold, maybe it would tolerate gold anodized aluminum

REAL GOLD, REAL GOLD, REAL GOLD!

There is no comparison between the visibility, warmth, and longevity of Gold leaf vs. gold paint, as the attached photos will attest.

The first photo is a south facing 23K Gold leaf finish on a sandblasted Granite face. The photo was taken six years after we installed it.

 -

The second photo is a north facing gold paint finish on a sandblasted Granite face taken less than a year after the "cheaper than you guys" sign company installed it.

 -

Someone may argue that the Gold in the photos shows up better because it is in the sun, however, even in the shadows of a north face, real Gold glows.

If a sign can't be seen or read, it's not doing its job--it has become a liability, not an identity or income generator. It's not hard to see which of these signs is more effective. The few hundred dollars the bean counters counted toward their bottom line meant that all the money that was spent was wasted.

Remember, "Gold's Gold... and paint ain't."

Hiya Pat,
I like real gold as much as the next guy, but does the subdivision warrant it? There are too many finish options available to just narrow your client choices to just one or two.
I would recommend that you take a look at the artist renderings to see what was originally intended. Then come up with 2 or 3 more options that would be appropriate for the environment. Just trust your judgement and select the appropriate materials.
I wouldn't do much if any design, but I would put a story board together for the client, showing the different textures and finishes that are available.

Havin' fun,

Checkers
