Just wondering if you guys are aware of the Wolfgangs Vault Concert Site?
If you can play streaming Audio files you can listen to some rare concert performances from the 60's, 70's and 80's. You can also look over some rare Rock concert Poster Art and buy a copy too?
I'm listening to a Dr. John concert from 1978 while I write this.
Here's a bit of info from the site....
Concert Vault, the world's greatest collection of vintage concert recordings.
Where does it come from? In 2003, Wolfgang's Vault acquired master recordings from the archives of Bill Graham Presents.
These live concerts were recorded at legendary venues like the Fillmore East and Winterland between 1965 and the late 1980s. In early 2006, we augmented the Graham archives by acquiring the archives of the King Biscuit Flower Hour, the nationally famous syndicated rock radio broadcasts of live concerts from the 1970s and '80s.
We also added the Silver Eagle Cross Country archive of country music concerts in 2006, and we haven't stopped there. Keep an ear out for additions to the Concert Vault in the near future.

We took cues from our listeners and have expanded the Vault Radio Feedback page into a fully realized community. In the Concert Vault you can personally rate each concert, see what others think, and meet kindred souls in the Concert Vault Forum.
How do you do it?
We've transferred these aging, but well-preserved, tape archives to highest-quality digital formats using the best tools available, and we have carefully catalogued everything.
The Concert Vault is fully licensed by BMI, ASCAP and SESAC, and we pay these performance rights organizations every time you listen to a concert. The license fees make their way back to the performers that made the music. One of our top priorities will always be to make sure that the artists are compensated for their performances.
Yes, downloads are coming! We still have a few details to work out, but plan to begin offering music downloads in the next three to four months. Stay tuned for updates and announcements. Registered Concert Vault listeners will be the first to know."

Try doing a Google video search of your favorite rockers. I dug up a few gooduns like the G3 Concert with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai & Eric Johnson and some rare clips of the Pat Travers Band performing live in 1976. Some great guitar work.

Thanks for the link, it appears I had already been there but it must have been for the posters not the concerts. Listening to Laura Nyro right now.
If Zappa Plays Zappa comes to a town near any of you, you should check it out. I never got a chance to see Frank Zappa, so I can't compare it to one of his shows, but it was a great show with Terry Bozio and Steve Vai playing part of the show, Napoleon Murphy Brock goofing around the stage, Dweezil playing Frank. I'm not sure if the other band members were from any of Frank's bands, but they all kicked some butt.

I lived across the street from Zappa and was around when his kids were born right up till the time he went solo from the Mothers of Invention. I could tell ya stories that would make ya hair fall out. One comes to mind is when the Mothers burned down the house in laural canyon the same one Deep Purple sings of on " Smoke on the water "
I also in Bill Grahams celler where the archives were kept back in the mid to late 60's. I met Bill through Chet Helms of the Avalon Ballroom.

Thanks Dale. You too Ray... I was just searching out some good G3 links a few weeks back. Eric Johnson played here with Chris Duarte not long ago. We don't get too many good bands, so that was awesome.
I was lucky enough to catch about 5 Zappa concerts in various cities between '75 & '83
wow... I'll bet there were some stories from those days Joey. Probably a few fires in their history, but I thought Smoke on the Water was about the burning of The Casino, a club in Montreux, Switzerland where Zappa played the night before Deep Purple were set to begin recording Machine Head.
I was a huge DP fan all through the 70's Our band covered at least a dozen of their songs over the years. Ian Paice probably influenced my drumming style as much, if not more, then anyone.

Yea! Zappa does Zappa is great! I saw Frank on the "Just Another Band from LA" tour, when Flo & Eddie were up front, Chuck Berry opened. Dweezil has done a great job putting the show together, and he's not too shabby on the guitar himself.

I heard on NPR the other day that Santana, the Dead and Led Zepplin are taking the guy who owns Wolkgang's Vault to court for unauthorized use of their material. Get it while you can guys!

Now believe me when I tell you that my words are really true. I want everyone to listen and believe. It's about some little people from a long time ago, and all the things the neighbors didn't know. You never know when a site may go down and not everyone does a backup. Soooooo... I've been "right-clicking and saving as" all morning. I pretty much have all of the posters, handbills, tickets, backstage passes, photos, cigarette butts, used styrofoam coffee cups, etc safely archived. ...Just in case they lose all that valuable history! Dale, thanks again for this link; it's going around the world as I type.

Doug, I see what you say and find myself saying " my, how history has changed " Back in the mid to late 60's I was a mens shirt designer on the Sunset Strip and my shop was across the street from Hanna Barbera. My clients included just about every national and international rock group and many Hollywood celebrities Carson, Curtis right down to Sammy davis jr. Zappa ran with Vito the king of the hippies and just about everyone who was anyone lived in Laural Canyon. I guess with all the excitement and herbal medication my mind took a different turn even though at that time I was hanging with Richie Blackmore and all the kids at Ben Franks.
Edited to add this, I guess Steve Shortreed found it necessary to remove me from the Letterhead Profile where my story used to be archived from back in the 90's.

Stephen you must have had the same album I had. Funny how the lyrics stick out in your mind. Or maybe that was the vision of a group of my friends "ridin' the pony" in unison while doing their own "actions". Yep Ya gotta love Zappa.

Thank you, I only saw Zappa 5 or 6 times and just about every other good band who played NYC between 1976 and 1979. This website is really a miracle. Hope it can last. The quality is beyond belief Thanks again and feeling way younger.

probably a dumb question... but until some lawyers change things.. this music is offered to us for free, so is that just to click on from their site, or is there any way to save copy of the music files into my iTunes library?

OK... I found this shareware streaming audio capture program called Audacity & I ran a quick test. I got a really nice sounding copy of a 1984 Stevie Ray Vaughan concert in Austin saved as a .wav file
I also found & downloaded Total Recorder another streaming audio capture program which I'll try out later. It appears to also save files directly to mp3 format which audacity doesn't seem to do.

a note about Total Recorder, maybe I just didn't hunt down the right link carefully enough but although they allow a free download, the one I found is a trial that will insert a noise into your recordings, so it's not a functional version, just a trial.
I was directed to it though someone on the forum at CD Freaks.com who said it could record 4 or 5 times faster then the length of the source. I'm not sure if this is really possible on streaming audio that is not downloadable though... so at this point Audacity gets my vote so far.
(yeah... SRV playing at home in TX, and with his brother... it don't get much better!)
