we had the best ever anniversary! thank you so much for your kind thoughts and blessing
for those who have been married for any length of time you will undoubtedly relate to the fact that some wedding anniversary's over the years, roll around when we really don't have the time, energy or where withal to appreciate them for what they are
this one was different
it's never ever about the gifts... they are only ever the icing on the cake
but this year the planets seems to align and I finally (after over over 10 years of looking) was able to find Devo a copy of a mini series, now on dvd, that we had absolutely loved when we first watched it on our little old TV... way back in the 80's
10 hours of australian drama based on a true story, that told of one family of pioneers, who did it tough and made their life in what can be a very inhospitable country side, the ozzie outback
when it first was shown Devo and I were living in a tiny rented house having just had the last of our 8 kids (collectively) most nights that it aired we were up late with a very sick toddler and brand new baby twins
Devo was working, slinging paint, whenever he could to try and get those pesky ends to meet
we were one big happy noisy family, doing what every one of us has done at one time or another, putting one foot in front of the next and just getting on with it
on the TV we watched amazed at how that family suffered the loss of loved ones, dealt with drought, fire and wartime
how they grew through the generations and had the good fortune of true friends to help them create a wonderful life... on average
when Devo and I started our adventure, with the wreckages of past marriages behind us, there were many who thought we were insane... it, we, would never workout
over the weekend we talked about all those times when it nearly didn't
we reminisced about the family we have grown, the friends that helped us through, the great joys that have come our way we took time to revisit the darker moments, the loss we laughed about the silly stuff ate cheesecake and walked on the beach
anniversary's are rear-vision mirrors, they allow you the opportunity to see the road behind, sometimes a little clearer than you saw it the first time
I can honestly say that I drive Devo crazy most days and he frustrates the hell out of me on the others
we agreed that our friends were right all those years ago... we were, and still are, totally insane to think that this could workout
and I understood that we are truly the lucky ones, through more good luck than good management maybe (shrug) but blessed none the less
We wouldn't have missed it for the world!
cheers gail

Happy anniversary Gail and Devo, it has been a long time since we met in England, but I'll never forget how much I enjoyed talking to you and the very kind invitation to your country. I still have hopes of making it, if I can only live long enough. Bill
