No, you're not Laura. I called earlier this morning and he had had three other calls, including one from a guy that is banned from this forum. There is a lot more to it than just "taking a break" but Ray is a nice guy, a straight shooter, but a nice guy nonetheless.

Sometimes places like Letterville take on a life of their own. Pretty soon, we find our emotions riding up and down with the atmosphere here. Without offending anyone, it becomes like a soap opera. Almost addictive, where we have to check in many times a day and see what's happening. There's nothing wrong with following a thread or subject of interest, but for some, it is an obsession!

Do you find it difficult to limit your time on the computer...especially online? I know I do at times. Again, an online community takes on a life of it's own, interfering with real life to a point where it's tough to seperate the two. When that happens, it's time to step back.

I've noticed that many "regulars" have exited, some more quietly than others. A break is usually a good thing. It helps us sort out the real from the imagined.

This place is a great resource, the best out there for the sign industry. But, you cannot have thousands of personalities and opinoins merging in one little online town and not hit heads from time to time.

Rapid Ray is a great contributor here, and he will be missed during his absence. But, life, real life is always more important. Maybe it's a point for all of us to ponder. [Confused]

Regards

[Cool]

Rick,
I know exactly what you mean. Today is the first day I checked the forum in a month. I was on the computer way too much and have too many other things that need my attention. Namely a shop, a home and a family. So time is very valuable and my family is my first priority.

I was checking the forum today because it helps to get me out of a rut at the shop when I feel overwhelmed. I'm reminded by my visits here why I chose this profession that I love (most of the time).

Thanks to all for being there , you never really know how much you're appreciated.

Well, I hope Ray does't stay away long. You know, we are like a family. And aftre being at the meet this weeknd, that point was reinforced a lot to me. Sure, I have my husband to take care of, & business too, & sometimes I just cannot get on here much as i would like to.

But after seeing all of you this weekend, it made me feel closer to all of you! And Ray, I don't know what happened, but please don't stay away long. All the preparation & finishing jobs to take off for the weekend, the travel time, the time painting, being on our feet, staying up late, traveling home again Sunday nite... it can wear on you, your emotions & everything. Maybe you just need to rest a bit.

I know finally today I am feeling a bit better. Traveling 14 hours to the meet, staying up & on my feet painting all day for 2 days, then driving back, gee, me & Jill didn't get home til Monday! And the Lupus I have about kicked my butt! I didn't realize how important it is for me to REST!!!

So Ray, rest a bit then please come back, ok? I do not think this is just any old site. We get close, & we are Brothers & Sisters of Our Craft, right?

By now you all should be familiar with the term IOAFS. This term was invented to remind us, that at the end of the day, it's only an f'in sign.

It's the same with Letterville. IOAFW! Sometimes we tend to get too involved with the daily soap opera that takes place here. That's especially true if you find yourself at the center of the latest drama. Ask me how I know? We do this 24/7/365 days a year.

Right now, the phone lines and emails are flying as interested people try to learn why Ray has decided to take a break. I'm only guessing at what might be the problem here, but the mention of "an unknown banned" Letterhead is an indication that someone is hard at work doing their best to cause division and stir the pot. It won't work, but he's welcome to keep trying.

If you have a problem with something here, why not just email or call us? For over 10 years, we have been available to you 24/7. Just drop us a line and explain the problem. We can't fix everything, but we sure do try. Give us a go and see for yourselves.

steve@letterhead.com

Just a second thought. If you are a digrunted, former member of this website that has been banned, please don't write us. After over 10 years of overseeing Letterville, there are only 4 people not welcome at our meet. We're not interested in any banned indidual's advise or opinions. Sorry. That's just the way it goes.

On a serious note though, on the word of one person, do we immediately assume a banned member is at work in the background to disrupt (or whatever the motive) Letterville?
Perfect example of how things can get blown out of proportion simply by assuming something true that might not even be close to true...if one is serious about improving the lifestyle of Letterville, one must take that hard look inside and decide whether to play into these little dramas or not, very simple...

One of the nicest things about this community is that we are all (except 4- I hear)free to come and go. I am one who sometimes takes long sabaticals from the board from time to time. Always because of my family and personal responsibilities getting overwhelming to me. I'm always welcomed back. As Ray is. Remember when Ricky Jackson said he was leaving?... He's back. Most of us can't stay away forever.

I think its a great shame, when anybody feels they have to "leave" or take time out, because of crap or whatever through posting.

I'm really happy I have a panel by you Ray hanging in my office, I'm also really glad for the chance I've had through this site to learn so much and meet so many great signfolk in real life, which I wouldn't have done if it wasn't for making contacts here.

Most of the bullsh1t that goes down here is pathetic compared to the feeling at a real meet, some people really need to get out more and live life....before its over.

Good luck.... I hope you find your way back, when the time's right.

I don't post that much anymore but read when I get time.

I don't mind the OT subjects, I've enjoyed alot of different mindbending substances in my past, I think its all part of lifes rich tapestry, I think its fun to learn how we all are in life and how we got to this dateline, I hate all the bitching, often between the same crowd, but in one or 2 line replies on an internet forum you are always leaving yourself wide open to be misunderstood.

Its abit frustrating at times when you ask a simple signrelated question, I had a pricing question on another posting recently, and never get a reply, but the OT posts are overloaded, I guess that human nature.

Well, I don't know why Ray is leaving. I don't think any of us do and we shouldn't speculate.

I had to take a time out. So have several others. Its not a bad thing to do.

Having been a moderator of more than one board (and still am), people come an go. But nowhere do I see anyone react to it like I do here. I can only conclude that the reason why is because in one sense or another, we've become friends. Good friends. And when someone leaves, its as if a family member is leaving. To say that we have an emotional investment here is true. If Ray didn't, Ray wouldn't have announced his leaving. If we didn't, we would have cared a wit.

So, for what its worth....

Ray, be good. I hope you won't be gone long.

In truth, Billy, that's all there really was to it.

Was...until some of this discussion was brought to my attention.

Rick,
"Do you find it difficult to limit your time on the computer...especially online?"

Bingo!
My bad. Time to break the habit, pure and simple. For me, that's gonna take doing it cold turkey.

There's a post going on right now that I made a comment on and it made me realize a truth...my sign kit is worth a lot more open than it is closed.
It's been closed a lot more than open lately and I need to focus on changing that...pure and simple. Not only for me, but for my family's sake.

Steve, in all fairness...
"Sometimes we tend to get too involved with the daily soap opera that takes place here. That's especially true if you find yourself at the center of the latest drama."

There's no drama here.
Just gotta be elsewhere for a while.

I appreciate the calls and emails more than any of you know.

Back to the business at hand...y'all be good.

Ray you are one of the most giving artists i've ever met in my life and i appreciate you greatly. there are few people that are so willing to help troubleshoot when there is a problem, share a technique..whatever. i find the more i give of myself sadly the more i am setup for disappointment in how others fail to give as much, but i wouldnt want life any other way...you are a giver. and i am thankful for the help and advice you have always given.

'Ditto' old paint [Smile]

Hello my name is gail and I'm a letterhead (read addict)

I have been a letterhead for just over 10 years

It all started with me reading the BB on my lunch break in the shop

Due to the worlds time differences, taking a late lunch meant that I could talk to other addicts (sorry letterheads) in real time chat

Those chat sessions got longer, till some days I would get through my work as fast as I could in the mornings, just so that I didn't 'have' to do anything in the shop after 1pm

I found myself rushing home from work early so that could get back to the conversations and threads on the home puter

I started wishing that I lived further north... like real far north (read up-over) so that I wouldn't be hindered by the time differences

A day away from the puter, working onsite, was pure anguish... what if something happened?... what if I missed it?

My family began talking to the back of my head, with me answering (if I had to) in mono syllables, never talking my eyes from the screen

It was about that time that I realized I was addicted...

Hooked on this wonderful, sometimes crazy, but always rewarding world of what we now call Letterville

I'd seen others come and go, but never for a minute considered that it would ever happen to me.
They would have to pry my cold dead fingers off the keyboard, to get me out of here

My 'real' world was letterheads... the other place was just where I got dragged back to when no up-overs were awake, or when the bills had to get paid

They say acknowledging the problem is the first step. Those first days not checking the BB were the hardest. I couldn't open a browser window because I knew that if I did I would 'HAVE' to hit the shortcut button to Letterville.

Even now I have to be careful... once an addict always an addict!

Now days I drop by from time to time... I see the new people. I read their insights, questions and concerns. I call in to have a laugh, to watch from the sidelines.

I tempt fate every now and then and even make a post, or answer a subject where I feel I could maybe be of some help.

As I type, or read, I am continually watching the clock... just a moment more I tell myself, then I will shut down the window

Knowing always that I must stay diligent... such is the life of an addict.

cheers
gail

ps: please read this post with tongue firmly in cheek... but know also that my truth is never far from the fiction

I haven't been here as much because I found a blog that's run by a Libertarian guy with a High IQ. (Not that the two are synonymous-Ha Ha.) But I was there all the time, just like I used to be here, and it was a problem at times.

I have pretty much fixed the problem by making the route to the blog very lengthy. I have to click 4 links to get to it. That keeps me to 1 or 2 visits a day.

Ray, thanks for your contributions. You're a level headed guy.
