Please watch this video:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6776147818181114423

I just received this via email. I had never heard of "bump locking" till now....but apparantly, it is very easy to get into most people's doors through this technique.

I checked out "bumping" on the internet, and it's all over the place.

In fact, there are people that sell "bump keys" and "bump tools" everywhere - under the guise of getting into a house you may have locked yourself out of...yeah, right!

This especially concerns me in that the technique generally leaves no trace of the forced entry....and may be of concern to ladies that have taken themselves out of domestic abuse situations and feel that a locked door will keep them safe from their estranged ex's.

May not be something worth paranoia....but you should know about this latest rage....to protect the valuables within your shop and home...and to re-evaluate your safety/security concerns.

It was an eye-opener for me!

Have a great day...be successful...

WOW. That's just scary.

Our little town has one of the lowest crime rates in the country and I've never really given too much thought to how much would be lost if someone broke into my shop. I can only imagine how it would be if this rage continues. With no trace left behind, your stuff is gone for good.

Thanks Todd.

I learned how to pick locks when I worked at an apartment complex. I was in charge of making sure we had correct keys for all the apartments.

My first attempt at picking a lock took less than 5 minutes to get in.

That report recommends a bump resistant lock. What I noticed is they didn't say bump proof, so I take that to mean it can still be bumped.

My advice is get a dog, know your neighbors, watch out for your neighbors and ask them to look out for you.

Well, ya realized that there are bump proof key locks available as spoken about in the video and as a matter of fact there are a number of keyless locks available as well. It took me only a few days after getting my trailer to realize how much it was going to cost me for a great lock in which to use on it if I wanted to protect my belongings during my travelling with or without my trailer. I had help from a young friend of mine determining which lock I'd get. My friend Jason is a firm believer in hi-tech locking systems for just about every situation including our shops, bikes, quads and just about everything needed to keep forever.

Anyone wanting security is just a step away from the many companies in this world by surfing on the worldwide net. I have a couple hi dollar keyless entrys which are fine as long as my memory doesn't fail me.

All that and i forgot to add a link to the worlds best lock MEDECO

According to Wikipedia, "Lock bumping originated in Denmark in the 1950's."

Let's face it...lock are there to stop honest people!

A burgular will get into your home or shop if that is his objective!

your best bet is a safe to hold your records and valuables and a video cam recorder...if you get broken into.

Otherwise ...it's like the Proctologist saying "Relax, this won't hurt!"

Those vids are all over the video sites, Utube, fugly and others. They been around for years and almost any kid can bump a lock if he really wants too.

Plus, cops are on to this and possession of a bump key is considered possesion of burglury tools.

Si is right. For example, if it is a steel building, you can take a cordless screw gun, buzz out 9 screws, pull the sheet of tin back and be in the building in less than a minute.

The keypad locks work very nice. We have a couple of them on buildings here... they were a little pricey ($600) but are very secure.

Here's a similar lock, looks a little more economical...

That may explain a recent theft at my shop. The aircompressor I use to run my automatic press and for sandblasting was stolen during the Labor Day weekend. The compressor is bolted to the concrete base our building sits on. We have two gate entrances to the property with padlocks on each gate. When Mom went to the shop to feed the cats that Monday morning, she saw that the compressor was gone. The main gate was still locked. However, the lock to the second gate was just hanging there on the chainlink open. The lock wasn't cut. There were no signs of tampering that we could tell.

I replaced the lock with one of those large Kryptonite u-shaped locks used for bicycles that uses a tubular shaped key. I don't know if that is any better or not.

IAM WITH SI....locks are for honest people!!!!!
in my life ive done a few thing....not proud of, but their is no lock that cant be opened buy someone without a key.
as jon says with metal buildings, they are the easiest. .... locks just slow them down a tab. LIGHTS....are youre best deterent. well lited areas are not where most criminal want to work. i always prefered broad daylight, you can take anything during the day....and people will never notice you being there. nite time people are more aware of things that arent normal to them. SECURITY CAMERAS will help. my freind here had cameras, and someone drove up, still daylight and stole something from the property......apperently they knew he had cameras, so we never saw the vehicle plate# or the persons face.
only thing i can say i been lucky in all my years. seems every place i have lived ive never been hit.
closest i ever came..was a guy walked up to our door one evening is sarasota, rang the door bell, and we was home....he didnt think anyone was there....opened the door, and he asked for a dollar.......he needed to make a phone call cause his car broke down.....i told him the AMACO 200 ft down the street had pay phones.....
strange.....

i lock my doors while iam sleeping....this at least will give me a chance to wake up, and put my hand on the gun....all day long even when i leave the house its never locked....OPEN DOORS ALSO will deter a thief, he will think someone is home and most do not want a conforntation.
add to this stuff:OUR NEWS STATION WEAR TV 3.

Copper thieves are still targeting West Pensacola air conditioners...
The thieves vandalized eight businesses at a strip mall on Mobile Highway... Foraging for copper...

The metal is worth a lot right now on the scrap metal market.

This theft comes just days after someone stole copper from a/c units at the Bingo Paradise And Sacred Heart Medical Group, also on Mobile Highway.

this is only couple miles from my house.

The crystal meth users are bad in these parts, and they've hit us fairly hard in the last seven years. They'll steal anything that isn't tied down, and some things that are.

Old Paint is right: We've had two extension ladders, a 12-foot trailer and a generator stolen in broad daylight. The generator was chained to my boom truck and they had to break a weld to take it. That was 5+ years ago at my old shop.

The night shift broke into my new shop (a block from the old one) a month and a half ago and relieved me of my laptop, a nice Bosch jig saw, a POS digital camera, a POS cordless drill and an XM receiver with home kit. I'd had the laptop for 10 months, and had only left it at the shop two times. [Frown] They broke in through a very small window (14" x 22"). None of the doors were opened and the alarm was still set the next morning when I arrived.

They may have been scared off if I'd had the motion detectors set. I never got in the habit of setting those because when we got the alarm we had a freakin shop cat that would set it off. Damn cat. [Mad]

I have been locking up my home, truck, windows, gates, etc. ever since the Night Stalker (Richard Rameriz) was in Los Angeles doing his thing. But now it looks as if I'm gonna have to take it up another notch with this new thing.
