I used to have a nifty razor blade holder about as long as regular xacto holder, that I could put small portions of razor blades in so that I could trim fine details on gold leaf jobs. I need another one quick! Anybody know where?

Hi Bob, I know exactly what you mean. I think they were made be Griffhold. I haven't seen them for years. I couldn't find it on their site. However they do make trimmer blades for the standard blade holder. I don't know if they would be flexible enough to trim gold leaf though. http://www.grifhold.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=120 Also I wonder if a sport fishing shop that sells fly tieing tools might have a small precision hand vice thingy. Duncan, it was a Grifhold tool. I remember reading in LeBlanc's book about the tool, and LeBlanc recommended a pin vise. At the time, all I could get was the razorblade holder. I got to really likeing the larger holder because I would break-off pieces of single edge blades and the large clamp area gave me a place for my clumsy fingers...
Thanks all for your input. I'm thinking so far that a Grifhold Pin vise is the best tool so far. I do have an older xacto #2 handle with a horizontal slit that might do the trick. I'll let you know

Bob, I've got this tool I never use, looks like it was made back in the fifties. It holds the whole single razor. It looks a lot like a boxcutter/utility knife sort of deal. I'll send you a pic if you're interested.

Bob, some of the standard exacto holders have a slit that a blade can fit into. We take it to the grinder and remove the opposing edges parallel to the blade, so that when the handle angle is inclined it doesn't have that part of the structure learing up our window work. I keep a plier in my kit to break single edge blades and remove them from the clip along the dull edge. Hope that is of help to you.
