Yep I'm gettin' the jump on this month's health club thread. [Wink]

It's World Finals time here in AZ, the WF's of jetski racing that is.

The jetski racing world is small, almost family-like where everyone lives out of town and the one time each year you get to see your best friends it's a special treat.

All my buds from England, Austrailia, Canada, New Zealand and of course from all over the US too have made very similar comments to me about my weight loss. It goes a little something like this:

"Wow Mike! A couple years ago you lost a lot of weight then the next year you were even smaller. Now, you're even smaller this year!"

It floors 'em when I tell them that first year I had lost 100lbs, that second year I was 50lbs heavier than the first year (although indeed smaller) and now being even smaller than I was in the first year I'm still 25lbs heavier. [Smile]

That time in the gym pounding weights is paying off!

Nice that you are enjoying the rewards of your acheivements Mike! VERY COOL! Are you wanting to lose any more weight or are you at your goal now?

I'm up at this early hour today because we are driving up to Inverness to do the "Rails to Trails" bike ride. I've signed on for 32 miles of it, but we'll see how far I get. [Smile]

Yesterday, I did my Sat. morning weight class, then did some trimming and yanking out small trees in my yard... and then I dove right into a 12 yard pile of mulch. (that's cubic yards) I got almost half of it spread before I lost daylight.

It's a busy weekend around here, doing some nice outdoorsy stuff, and the weather has been great for it. In the 70's here!

I have fat to lose but my focus is more on building some muscle which in turn is burning more fat.

My weight is actually staying real steady and slowly but surely the fat covering the muscles is burning away as the muscles grow (slowly), mostly visible in my arms, shoulders, chest and face.

I eat healthy but now if there's something I want to eat, I eat it without reservation. I do enough exercise throughout the week and most meals are super healthy so my indiscretions amount to nothing more than a blip on the radar screen.

I am hopeful this will be the month I can start to work out again!

I've been getting my lawn mowed and floors done for a month now, and what a difference when you turf what hurts! I feel alot better.

My hope is to get a personal trainer at our local rec center and get a membership thing going so I can get going on a regular basis. This darn camping on the weekends is cramping my workout style though.. [Smile]

Donna, you have an active son,... I believe you are probably getting enough exercise! Cody is keeping you in shape! hahhaa

You are also probably getting plenty of execise on your camping trip.

Staying in shape doesn't have to involve a gym! In fact, the more "fun" you can fit into fitness, the better. [Smile]

Well, I slipped back abit.

I was holding on to 147 pounds (perfect weight for me) walking 2 miles everyday and we were going to start 3 miles per day last week.

Then we got busy with my #2 son's wedding. The bride's family are divorced, remarried, fighting and dead broke...so we got involved and made neat decorations for the wedding and helped out financially.

Anyway, today I get on the scale and I have gained 8 lbs. I was in shock! How can you gain that much weight in a week? Holly Molly! [Eek!]

We also bought a TOTAL GYM 1700 CLUB 4 weeks ago and Cindy is working out on it twice a day in addition to walking...and I would classify her as underweight and that scares me.

I've been working out on the TOTAL GYM every other day for 20 to 30 minutes.

Just my opinion, the TOTAL GYM is the best machine for the money on the market today. Ours cost $389.00, and it had a few more gizmos than the $200.00 unit. The one on the TV infomercial is really expensive...and really doesnt do much more than the $200 model. We bought it locally at Dick's Sporting Goods (nationwide franchise store)

Do the research and I'm sure you will find that it is the best resistance workout machine you can afford that does everything it says it will do.

Cindy made me start taking her dierettic(sp?) tablets to see if that would lower my blood pressure. It has been consistantly at 143/97 and that got it to come down a bit to 139/92...but its a battle I am losing despite watching my sodium intake, drinking more water and exercising.

I've got my work cut out for me for October...let you know where I stand in the November Health Club report.

I'm always encourgaged by those who participate in this OT thread. Please keep it up. I hope I can impart a litte encouragement back. [Smile]

Dave,

I used to have a Total Gym, but I had the pricier "original" one. I bought it from a warehousing company that had one with a little tear on the board, for $300 and change.

It worked great but it wasn't long before I had enough strength to completely max out all the exercises, and that's when I joined the gym.

As far as the 8lbs in one week. Don't worry. You didn't gain 8lbs in one week. Impossible. You would have to eat 4,000 calories *beyond* your regular daily calorie requirement in order to do that, which would be something like 6,000 calories total - every day. You can't do that by accident. [Smile]

Your body is just hanging on to water to process the extra food and repair your muscles after using the Total Gym.
Drink more water so your body will see the excess and release it.

Cranked-out a few miles on the bike over the weekend, and I will get some riding in again this afternoon.

The weather has been perfect lately.

Take the dog for a walk, go for a hike in the woods, get on the pedals, or go for a run.

Just move!

Peace,
Bob

Bob is giving good advise!

I've been pedaling the bike, classes at the gym, moving rocks and mulch in the yard, power walking along the coast, and lots of other cool stuff!

I find it helps with mental stress too.

It's just plain 'ol good for you ... up and down, inside and out! [Smile]

Take advantage of this great fall weather and get that circulation going!

Above I mentioned I gained 8 lbs over a week...and it was really over about 12 days.

I've knocked off 4 of those lbs. since the last post.

It hurt! Fasting is not fun, and also had a dental appointment which helped because it was a nasty drill and fill of a back tooth and a cleaning. When I was done I didn't feel like eating for a day and I hadn't eatin before the dental appointment.

Back to walking 2 miles per day.

Working out on the Total Gym every other day for 20 minutes.

Eating up the last of the Bison

"I feel Goooooooooooooooooooooood (James Brown song comes to mind) soooo gooooood.....!

OH, and Mike...the newer Total Gym systems have a bar where you can attach weights (round ones used for bar bells) and at incline level 5 with weights attached you would have to be a very big muscle man to max out the Total Gym to where you were not getting the exercise you felt was challenging.

My motive for using the Total Gym is just to get the blood moving...not to become superman. [Smile]

Did 22 miles on the bike last night, with the last 7 miles in a cold driving rain.....still better than watching TV.

Must breathe.

Always breathe.

I tried taking this week off from exercise for recovery (try to take a week off every 8 or 9 weeks) but last night (Thurs) I couldn't stand it any longer. I broke down and hit the elliptical at the gym. 60 minutes at 85% of max heart rate and 1200 calories later all felt right with the world. [Smile]

I woke up this morning and did the same thing. [Smile]

I figure my next attempted exercise break will be right at Christmas which is perfect because I'll be out of town for a week and shouldn't have any problems staying away from exercising.

Been busy at work so the gyn time was down this month. I have plans to be back next week and see If I can't get back in my pre competion mode. Started on the diet of more protien but haveing trouble with the snacks. I don't feel so bad though I still have all the muscel I need and the body fat is a small issue, just want to build he cardio up. I am still in the 180-190 range but would like to have a tone 190 with the lungs to get the 2 min or under in the fire fit.

I lost 5 of that 8 lbs, back to my target weight of 150lb.

I can see now how a person's weight can go right back up, and quickly, when you don't keep a constant watch on the scale.

Since its getting dark earlier, our walking schedule is getting messed up with running overtime at work.

We've missed our evening walks, which is not just good exercise, but its a time when we can talk, visit, argue, hold hands.... (blush) ok enough said.

After a month full of travel ... down only 1 pound .. but still on the right track. Now 186, 24 down and 11 to go.

Decided this month after travelling long road trips with 3 key employees that perhaps lifestyle & fitness is a good benefit to encourage. As of Nov. 1 the shop will pay 50% of enrollment in "workout world" for all employees.

Biggest benefit to this is that I, for the first time in my life, will be enrolling in a fitness program.

Getting leaner, now gonna get fitter.... [Smile]

I am am 15 pounds lighter than I was when I had my heart attack. I should be lower but I am not going to beat myself up about it.

I have slacked off my walking since I was looking for a job and have subsequently started working. Shame on me. I am going to do something about that.

It has been over a year since I have smoked. I still have cravings from time to time but I keep the memory of laying in the ER at Niagara Falls Memorial in my mind as an encouragement not to.

I was told that if I started smoking again, I would be back under the knife within a year and that the second time around was nowhere near as much fun as the first. This is a theory I do not wish to put to a test.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda is a trap we all fall into. I take responsibility for my health and it is up to me to do something about it.

I doubt I am going to turn into a workout junkie like some of you. Walking is OK but it is so boring. So is going to the gym. A treadmill seems like a decent alternative because I could watch TV while doing it like Dana's friend does. She says it really helps to pass the time.

I am happy for you all doing what you are doing. Keep up the good work.

I got out of my routine at the Y for a number of reasons and I'm just now getting back into it. It didn't help that they replaced all the treadmills with new units that I really don't care for at all. I was previously running nine miles a week, now it's about half that but I do take our puppy on one hour walks every day. Bruce, you might want to try that route, it's definately entertaining........"no, stop that, what's in your mouth, gimmie that,... no, they don't want to play with you,... drop that....quit" [Smile]

Actually, it's not that bad, she behaves very well when on a short lead and we are walking to the park.....the long lead is another story.

Hey Mike, losing even a pound while traveling is a good feat considering how nutrition tends to take a back seat to more "travel convenient" foods!

Bruce, there are ways to make walking and time at the gym more interesting. I hate treadmills but hiking around the mountains and terrain here is a good workout and fun too, or a fast paced walk through the sandy beach along the lake is nice (walking in sand works your ankles) plus the scenery is awesome. I'm sure MN has some nice scenery you could enjoy. Hey, it's MN.. grab some ice skates and have at it!
There's no time to get bored during my weight workouts. There's absolutely no time for rest between exercises. If I'm not doing a lift exercise, I'm loading up weights for the next exercise. Freeweights and compound exercises only, no wasted time spent on isolated muscles. In and out in 30 minutes!

Bruce,
Walking doesn't have to be boring if you can team up with your wife or a friend's wife....er...well, that could be deadly! [Eek!]

Anyway, riding a bike around the community might be a great workout to consider. As long as your legs keep moving, not coasting too much, I don't think it would be boring.

Get a Total Gym, even a cheap one, and they are extremely fun for a 20 to 30 minute workout every day or every other day.

Mike, I'm so proud of you!! [Smile]

I joined Curves and workout three times a week, if I miss a day I make sure I have farm chores to do outside (picking up manure, gardening, etc)
And while the weather is good I go trail riding with friends.
I have been sticking to a 1600 cal a day plan for two months now and am doing good, I hope to reach my goal in a year.
Everyone drinking your water? [Smile]
