I tried to print with crop marks, remove the print, laminate the print, then stick the print back in the sp540v. (VersaCamm 54 inch)

Did what the book said, lined up the crop marks on the cutting blade travel path.

Hit print (with the cut only feature enabled) and the machine ran the print backwards out of the VersaCamm and on to the floor, then it proceeded to try to find the crop marks!

irretating machines! arghhhhhhhh!

The book didn't say anything about what to do if that happens.

We tried it several times, same result.

Then we tried to align the crop marks manualy, and that failed also, after several attempts.
It cut in the wrong place.

Any suggestions as to the problem and what it takes to make it work?

Thanks in advance. [Smile]

Hi Dave,

when I load the media to print, I always do a sheet cut, so it is nice and straight in the machine. If you do that, you'll notice the edge of the freshly cut paper lines up perfectly with one of the lines on the machine. Now when you reload the media, you can use that nice straight cutline to line it up.

My program is colorip, I don't hit print, but go to the 4th queue which is the cut only queue. I select the file I want to cut, and it's bang on every time.

The circle and square should be on the right corner of the print nearest the front of the machine. Advance the print so that the circle is just slightly in front of the media clip. Then hold onto the print and lift up the wheels and put the wheels back down with the wheel lever. The print head will travel back and forth on the machine and come to a stop. This tells the machine you have established a new origin.

Now hit print with "cut only" selected and the print head will search out the circles. It usually takes ours 2 tries to get the forward circles located then it gets the back 2 and comes to a stop. After a few seconds it should cut.

I tell you this, because I think it sounds like the printer is remembering the last origin location. Each time you lift the wheel up and down it will establish a new point of origin.

once you move the blade over the corner crop, you are hitting "auto Align" and then "enter" on the machine keypad, correct?

I have the 540 ex II, and I would assume the V is the same.

It then proceeds to scan all 4 crops and once it's successful, the says "B123". At that point, it's ready for the cut to be sent.

Things could be different with the 540v though.

You should leave a little extra media front & back when printing with crop marks. If you forget you can tape on a little 'flap' just big to hit the front & back media sensors.
Its pretty much as Bill says, I line the little tiny 'V' about 1/4 in front of the back of the edge guide and as Sue says if the lead edge of the media is cut square you will be well within the misregistration tolerance factor of the machine.

The 'V' in the name simply means it came with Versaworks not Colorip.

One more thing- and I learned this the hard way- make sure your crop marks are between your outside rollers. Apparently that is suppose to be common knowledge, because its not in the book.

Yeah sounds to me like the crop marks are too close to the edge. You need around 4" in the front of the pring and as much as 6" behind.
