Its been a summer of endless opportunity. I'm not talking of the business kind, but rather a much better opportunity!
Being home based offers endless opportunity to spend time with one's family. Phoebe and my daughter have been around our place a LOT this summer. And I'm glad.
As little Phoebe grows up I am often reminded of when my kids were little. I ENJOYED that time immensely too. Endless hours were spent with the kids in my studio and 'helping' me around the property. Phoebe does the same.
I'm ever mindful that the shop can be a very dangerous place and kids can't be left alone for a second. Even so with a slight rearranging of my schedule and selected duties there are plenty of tasks I can do where she can help. It only takes a little longer to do tasks with her help.
Phoebe generally arrives mid morning while Bec does the chores with the horses. That's quality grampa time. Then its back to work until in the late afternoon my sign work comes to a halt once more and it's back to being a grampa full time for the next hour or so.
During the day if I have to go to town and run errands I'll stop by and pick up little Phoebe for the trip. I try and make the trip fun... and do some stuff she likes too... stuff we can do together... not just business. We have fun!
It was the same way when my kids were little, I ALWAYS had time to spend with them. Work could be done later if it was really pressing.
As the kids got older they were ready and willing to help with things I was wroking on. I was also always there to help with things important to them.
Being a sign person offers me TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY. I get to do work I love and also to spend time with those I love whenever the opportunity arises... not on someone else's schedule. I'll take that over a REAL job any day!
Take time each day for the IMPORTANT stuff. You will be much the richer for it!

The older I get, I think every day of the days, that grow into years--without us realizing so much time has gone by--and *poof* we missed it, seemingly, in the blink of the eye. And THIS is while we remember it...and some can't the older they get.
Truth be told? You said it all. Every day is 'one moment in time' that we can cherish--and never get back again.

I recently went into another town to letter up some cement trucks. Cody was with me this time around, and he was eager to clean the trucks wherever he could reach. Then he removed the premask where possible. Pretty important stuff according to a 7 yr old!
One guy in the bay noticed him working hard, and decided to give Cody a ride around the yard in one of the trucks. I've never seen a cement truck bolt so fast across a yard and lay rubber before. LOL Just yet another perk to be associated with someone in the sign biz.

The best things about working for myself is the time that i get to spend with my daughter, Indiana. She is nine weeks old & it's great working from home & being able to see all the changes that are goin on, I don't miss anything. Last week my wife charged into the office yelling " She's smiling & laughing!" I ran from my desk and as soon as Indiana saw me, she smiled & let out a little giggle. I would work at home for free just to enjoy moments like that everyday...
