I place an order, and it gets shipped out fine, and then when it gets delivered, stupid strikes.
9/12/06 - I call the company and they tell me that it is on the truck to be delivere. I thank them and look forward to seeing my new software.
9/13/06 - Call back to get the DHL tracking #, and they tell me that it is on the truck again to be delivered again. I get the tracking #, thank them again, and track it myself. Sure enough, on the truck for second delivery. Yet, DHL doesn't show up.
9/14-06 - Track again, and my package is shown being signed for by the receptionist with a name I had never heard of before. Funny thing is, I don't have a receptionist. Its just me, myself, and I, and none of use have never used the name Cagle. I get on the phone with DHL, and they have the local delivery terminal call me. Turns out they left it with a neighbor, and they would go get it, and get it to me. Problem is, this neighbor is 3 or 4 blocks away, and they tell me where it is. Easy enough, I'll just go get it myself. So I go by and ask if they have a package for Kottwitz Graphics, addressed 6 North Maryland Ave. The neighbor is an old lady, and she said yes, she signed for it, and gave it to the neighbor that owned a junk store at 6 Maryland Ave. I go next door, and a yougn kid, mayby 16 was just walking out, and he didn't know anything about it, and his mom is in Ocean City for bike week, and won't be back to next week. I tell the lady that it was an important package, and because she signed for it, she was responsible for it.
Well she shows up at my house about 2 hours later with my package. Problem is...it has been opened, and the paperwork showing who it is addressed to, and I assume the receipt have been destroyed and thrown away.
My first question was, who opened it? Why would someone open a package that has someone elses business name on it?

Hey Mark, We had a shipper loose a $5000+ display that was delivered to the wrong company, wrong address, and in the wrong town! To make matters worse, the delivery driver remembered delivering it, but could not recall to who or who signed for it. The ultimate kicker was that they tried to deny our shipping claim, saying that they did not loose it, it was just misplaced. After 3 months of BS they finally settled the claim. I would suggest that you call the the place where you bought the software and explain the situation. If they don't replace the lost software in a very timely manner, I would call your credit card company and dispute the charge.
Good luck,
Checkers

Mark..In this case I think the blame lays squarly on DHL.
Up here in Canada, I mainly deal with UPS and Purolator. In the past I have had the supplier mark the packages with "no signature required, leave outside front door" if I thought I might be out on a job at the time of delivery.
That worked for a short time until Purolator required me to sign one of THEIR forms indicating that no signature was required and then they attached a scannable decal to the door so that the driver could scan the decal and free himself from responsibility.
While talking to the driver he indicated that they could get fired for delivering to a wrong address or getting an unauthorised signature, or worse yet, no signature at all.

Yeah, I've been on the phone with the software company, and the shipper. The software company told me that there was nothing of any concern on the papers, and they would fax me another copy. Just go by and pick up the software, and try it. If it works, great, if not, they will get me another copy out overnight. I, of course, asked if it could be anyone but DHL.
The company has been great, but my biggest thing is who ever opened it may have been looking for something that they could use. I guess it ain't software.

For the same reason I opened a package that came to my place.. I never looked at the address label. Just open it and see what I got.
Only then I discovered it wasn't mine..

It's DHL! I'm not that far from you in DE and I've had similar problems with DHL. And if you need them to return the package............it's hell getting them to pick up at your shop.
UPS on the other hand has always been a joy to work with!

I ask for UPS if the vendor will use them. I've had one of the others (fedex or airborne) leave a brand new laptop on the neighbor's front step, (never came here, didn't even make sure anyone was at the wrong address), I've had fedex come to my house with a package for a neighbor & when I pointed out what house they wanted he got all snotty and says "Can't you just give it to them?". Yeah, soon as I get my paycheck from fedex, I'll get right on that.
As for opening someone else's package, don't you usually know if you're expecting a package? If you do open it without looking at the address and don't recognize the contents, don't you look at the paperwork that came with it instead of throwing it away?
DHL would get an earfull on this one.

Guess I'm just anal that way.. I always check the labels.... probably because the mail sorters here are illiterate and I always get other people's mail... people that live miles away on completely different streets with names nowhere remotely similar to my street name.

To this day I stand by the fact that the UPS peeps in the central distribution center (Doraville, GA) must have THE BEST employee rec center...ever. What with all the 'missing deliveries'.
I ordered a BBQ grille. NOT, mind you, a regular grille, but one that would be found at a state recreational site. For weeks I went round-and-round with UPS. "We sent it". "I didn't get it". Lost in delivery...
Six years later? I'm still p'ooooed. I didn't pay for it, or get it, but I never re-ordered, either... Grrrrrrrrr...
The US Postal Service *forgive me while I gag* (by promoting the USPS) actually offers services which are viable money-saving options. They offer Priority Rates on a standard box or envelope.
I'm getting over UPS being 'the best'. But I'm still not over the fact that they're using MY GRILLE.
There's no security in ANY shipments by ANYone. All you can do is insure them...then pray.
Hmm...Here's a though. As an international entity, letterville should get special shipping deal. I'll work on that.

DHL delivered a package to me marked in big black ink.>>>>NEED TO CHANGE ADDRESS!!, in a digusted looking scrawl. Seems when THEY processed the package THEY printed the wrong address on the package. All paperwork on my end and the senders end had the correct addy. Guess who that leaves responsible? duh... DHL? I just happened not to be at the shop when it was delivered or the driver would have gotten an earful from me. But of course, in their perfect world it was someone else's fault. They actually called me today wanting my shipping biz...I almost laughed at the girl on the phone. I explained to her that I didn't need her service and thanked her very much......... I'll take UPS anyday.

Hi Mark, not sure if that was us (we ship DHL) but to their defense I have to say we've had fewer problems with them than either UPS or FedEx (worked with both in the past).
Let me know if there's anything I can do.. reach me at mark@estimatesoftware.com .. I'll take care of it straightaway.
As for someone else using EstiMate, they can't if they're not you. Hehehehehe
