Sipping a coffee, gettin' ready for work, had the Today Show on, and basically sat there in disbelief as everybody was trying to figure out what was going on as that first plane struck ... then the second ... and I knew life as we knew it was about to change.
How about you? It's going to be a day to remember where we were and where we're going.

I was standing at the end of the production table when a Courier asked me "Have I heard about the World Trade Centre?" My knees got weak and I went in and told my wife, and drove home to verify it on the Tv. Yes I'll remember it forever.

Sitting in front of my computer when the phone rings....it's my brother, a police officer.
He says,"You watching tv?"
I answer, "No,why?"
He says, "Turn it on....now."
And as I do so, he tells me that an airliner just flew into the first World Trade Center...and I don't believe him at first.
I turn on the set, with him still on the phone....and a few minutes later another one rams the second tower.
We both agree, it must be terrorists at this point.
I become very, very angry...and am thinking, "Ok - let's find out who it is and let's get some people at Norad pushing some buttons and turning some keys in unison."
Now, I sit and wonder where the next attack will occur....Great Britain, Canada, here again in the States? I hope not...yet I have this uneasy feeling.
I grieve today for those that lost their lives on 911; for their families and their friends.
I salute those brave policemen, firemen, and rescuers as well as those in our military and secret services that work day and night abroad and at home risking their lives despite those that rail against them, so that we can spend time with our loved ones, work and play, and dream fanciful dreams while sleeping in the comfort of our homes.

Was in a customer's shop when a woman ran in and said something was wrong in New York. Turned on the TV and in one minute saw the second plane hit. My first thought.... "This is an act of war."
CNN Pipeline is replaying their original coverage of that fateful day on the internet... rebroadcast

I too got a call from a friend. Turned on the TV and watched as the second plane hit. The first thing that crossed my mind is that I was watching the first of the end of the planet. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families who were directly involved. Its amazing to me that the terrorist activity hasn't bloomed on our contient. Hats off to those who are doing an incredible job at keeping that from happening. The airport waits etc. are a VERY VERY small price to pay for these folks doing such a commendable job of doing that.

Edited to add that I was having coffee with my artist on that morning of the attack. We often talk about the raw emotion we felt that day.
My nephew is a volunteer at World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses just across the river. He saw it from a window overlooking Manhattan, and became instantly nauseated. As a resident of the area, it touched him deeply. He still gets emotional when he speaks of it.

I remember .......I had just got out of bed .....I thought I was watching a silly movie...as I went on to the next channel..it was the same movie........the 2nd plane had just hit the 2nd tower.
Again. I thought It was a movie.....I will never forget that day. I called my mom and we then realized what was happening together. I am not a very news worthy person ....but that day... I did not shut off the news....... 911

I was barely awake. My mother-in-law called and said, "are you watching TV?" I quickly turned it on and soon after the 2nd plane hit. Then they were talking about the Pentagon.
I had my daughter in my lap (only two years old) and I was wondering what to do.
Called my husband at work and said we are at war. What should I do? Where should I go?
I ended up staying home, holding my daughter and crying. I didn't know anyone in the towers but do have a friend who's brother-in-law was in one of them and got out before they fell.

I was at another shop in town, helping to letter a step-van...not a normal occurance. There were two other people painting too, also not normal. All the patterns were pounced on, and we had a portable radio on. We decided to put one person on each side, and one on the back.....also not normal.
All three of us had red paint, and were painting large, heavy numerals "911" at the same time, when the first plane hit. The truck was for a company called 911 Plumbing.
The shock of what was happening sent chills up my spine, and when the one tower collapsed, my stomach churned, and all I could think about was all those people who were dying.
It was a little while before it "sunk in", that we had been painting 911 when it happened, and that the date was 9/11.

Stunned and heart broken...still am when I remember that day. I've been to Ground Zero twice since that day...it's a moving experience to say the very least.

I watched the whole thing on TV from the beginning, before the 2nd plane hit. I shut down the shop and after the 2nd plane hit, went out and lowered the flag to half mast.

My husband was working about 20 minutes away from Shanksville PA where the plane went down. I was afraid, thinking they were after the nucleur reactors down there & prayed he would get home safe, & he did.
I went out & put our flag at halfmast too.
Edited to add... To all of you...PLEASE....we must not ever forget this. And speaking of border security is NOT a matter of talking politics. This is REALITY, & we all need to protect ourselves, EVERY country, not just we in the USA. We ALL live in a different world now.

I was working a large production company at the time, and I was walking through the face forming area, and I over heard someone say something about a plane hitting the world trade center. I thought he was talking about a movie and continued on my way.
When I got back into the office about 15 minutes later, there was no one there. Everyone was in the confrence office watching the tv, and I saw the replay of the second jet hitting the second tower.
Yes, I'll remember that to the day I pass.

A good friend of mine lived and worked in NYC.
He was attending a conference breakfast at Windows on the World. I remember that he called me up at about 2:30am just to gloat, I was pretty fond of that restaurant myself, you see.
My last words to him were, "Oh yeah ya snapperhead? GO F$K YOURSELF!!" This is, you must understand, perfectly acceptable behavior between two friends from the city.
Today is not so happy for me.

It was one of those things that you remember exactly where you were at the time, like when President Kennedy got shot. I had just opened up for business and the wife called. I ran two doors down to the laundromat to watch their television. I remember the numb feeling that crept over my body as I watched the second plane crash into the WTC. When I heard about the plane crashing into the pentagon I knew it was, without a doubt, an act of war. I hung a note on the door and closed for the rest of the day; the only time I've ever done that in 10 years.

Was drivin' down the road listening to AM talk radio when the announcement came over the news . . .
I pulled over on the side of the road and just sat there listening and crying . . .
I finally called my dad to see if it was already on the news he constantly watched, an of couse it was, and I pulled back on the road and turned around to go back to his house. His home was not far from where I was and I got there just as they began announcing about the plane that was crashed over Pennsylvania and the one that hit the Pentegon.
I understood that this was terrorists on a certain level, worthy of retaliation, but when the news announced the hit on the Pentegon, then I understood this was a very clear and direct action of war against the US that would require a very clear and direct response to the perpetrators.

Did you see the 2 part drama series on the events leading up to 911. Tonight is the second half. It's given me some insight into some of the problems we went through and some we still face.
Hatred is a cancer that we need to address. It's complicated and scary, but I don't think it will ever go away.
It's a shame, because underneath our physical traits and our ideologies, we are unbelievably similar -- and we are all born to die. Wouldn't it be something if we could embrace our differences and flourish in our diversity. Wouldn't it be something if we could concentrate on relieving the anguish of those who are sick and needy and strive to make all our lives better.
Those who pray on others can't bring themselves to imagine how great things could be, their hatred consumes them. Pray for peace on this solemn anniversary!

Ricky mentioned John Kennedy. I was born in 1958 but I can remember Staying home from school to watch the funeral. I realized then as a small boy that no one was really safe I mean If they could get the president. I used to have nightmares that cruschuph was coming to get me. All the A bomb talk on tv, Vietnam on the news every night. Not much has changed Still at war still not as safe as we want. Children still having nightmares. But we need to remember that the terrorist want us to be scared, we need to teach our kids to be brave. To know that this country was brought about by walking threw fear and facing tyranny. We need to protect the thing that makes America what it is.(our constitution)thay have won if we let fear force us to give up to much of our freedom. I too saw the second plane hit I was sickened .These cowards who will not suit up and face us as solders on a battlefield but instead destroy innocent civilians surly they will not prevail.
