So how's everyone doing? ... I ask while I stuff my face with another peice of chocolate!
I've had a relentless sweet tooth lately. I just know I'm packing on abit of poundage because of it.
But I'm still with the exercising. Doing my classes and power walks mostly. Our weekly group biking has been slim .... the rain has been putting a damper on that for us.
Took a 6 mile kayak paddle last weekend that had me feeling my arms the next day! Whew!
So, now as we wind down the summer, what are your plans for winter activities?
How's everyone feeling these days?

I was almost down to my ideal weight all summer but it's getting cold again soon (light frost last night) and I have to pack on pounds for hibernating. Same story every year, oh well.

fingers are getting a workout typing stuff..
wrist is happy doing a workout with the mouse..
Arms and shoulders are getting a workout applying graphics to trucks that are higher than me...
Legs are getting a workout climbing up and down ladders to install even higher graphics...
Add to that mix..lifting 12 oz weights with one arm..repetitive motion...switch arms after each bottle..
Plus walking about 2-3 miles a day..
( The walking and the work part is the healthiest..NOT flat belly or hard belly..but comfortable with the results)

Well, since my accident, my back has been giving me grief. I'm still not mowing my own lawn. It feels sunburned inside, strange sensation. Sometimes the feeling is so intense a quick laydown is the best thing to ease the pressure. I just keep trying to do things and stop if I can't. Generally two steps forward, one back, so there IS progress.
Good weather, good spirits, good mood, good health. I want it all! Looking forward, always!

Just give it time, Donna. And, don't push it.
I was rear-ended a couple years ago. My truck suffered no damage, but my neck was sore for months. At times it felt as if something would just pop, the discomfort would go away.

Broke even last week, (too many ppl had birthdays), but delighted with my weigh-in this morning, 191, down 4lbs.
Yee-haw 19 down and 16 to go, just over the half-way mark. Feeling better about myself and getting occasional remark about looking better.
Getting used to Sterling low carb beer on friday nights, which is the only night I have a few. Can't honestly say I like the stuff but with a couple of slices of lime in it, it is at least palatable.
Next two weeks are going to be rough on the diet. Sign show next weekend which for me means driving 19 hours each way and living in restaurants from Wednesday through Sunday. Tough to get any exercise in the car. Good news is that I typically walk my ass off at the shows, They're important to me as usually it's the only time I see my suppliers, and I'm always looking for what's new.
The following week I'm off to Montreal to see Roger Waters concert, and I seriously intend to enjoy myself. ... its only 14 hours each way.

The trails in the Adrondack's were calling my name.
My son and I attacked Mt. Colvin 4,057', and Mt Blake, 4,013', and had a blast.
The hike was a grueling 13.8 mile trek. One straight path up over Colvin, down in the col, and straight-up to the top of Blake, then back down Blake, back up to the top of Colvin, and then out. It took us about 10 hours.
There was some serious vertical on this, and lots of good old fashioned Adirondack Mud. I had so many pine needles down my back, and in my boots. Gaitors just wouldn't help, ha ha
The body feels this one today.
Great temps, low humidity, and some fantastic views. At times, it seemed like you could reach right across the valley to the Great Range.
10 hours of getting to talk with your teenage son without any TV, computer, or phone,.....priceless.
Here are some photos:

We were able to get back to our biking again. Two weeks in a row! woohoo! And the weather has been wonderful, ... not as humid.
I took a "bootcamp" type class last week that REALLY whipped my butt good. I was sopping wet after it. It was excruciating, and I'm amazed I got thru it ... although, it was not at all pretty! I was definately the train wreck in the room!
However, being a total newbie at it, I must commend myself for sticking it out (and resisting the temptation to bail!)
One of the things that I found the hardest was the jump rope. First off, I suck at it. Everyone was going to town, breezing by with it real fast, their feet barely leaving the ground. And there I was skipping away to the beat of "mary had a little lamb". Pretty embarrassing. hahaaa We must have jump roped for about 10 minutes straight .... seemed like an eternity. We went right from that into jumping jacks, ... about 10 minutes straight. Some real jarring on the knees. I was exhausted ... and then there was more stuff ... lots more, one thing after another, high reps. OUCH!
Anyway, as hard as it was, I sure did get a feeling of accomplishment from it, and felt pretty good for the next couple days. Somewhat in pain, but had lots of energy.
I don't know if I'd want to make a steady diet of that class, but I'd throw it in every once in awhile when I feel like taking on another challenge like that.

Lets See.... 2 packs a day. Can't even register on the cholesterol scale. I do walk about 4 miles a day around the shop. Left side of my Body is around 75% disabled since being crushed or has pins and plates holding me together. Have dropped 20 pounds since May. Gave up on trying to develop Pecks with weights so I have nice breasts now. So all in all.. Not to bad..
Joking aside. Going to try Hypnosis for the smokes and have been trying to eat better. Hence the weight loss.

Moi? abuse?
Is squatting 370lbs considered abuse?.. and considering 6-8 weeks ago I was only squatting 120lbs. I did stall out today though, got stuck at the bottom and couldn't make my legs do anything. Luckily I was using a Smith machine so I was able to turn the bar to engage the safety hooks.

After 2 weeks of road travel and positively spoiling myself in some of my fave restaurants I'm proud to report that I actually dropped a pound, I had real fears of gaining back 10.
Sticking with it, feeling good and now thinking of signing up with a gym for the first time in my life.

Bob, those pictures are really something! i would LOVE to go hiking & camping in the mountains!!!! You are so blessed to spend that time with your son, too!
I lost about 15-20 since I quit smoking in January (& had gained the initial 10 many people gain after they quit). Still no smokies, I try to walk 1 hour each morning BRISKLY with Lucy, the choc. Lab we have. Lucy is chubby too!
Yesterday me & Lucy Lou went walking along the lake shore "combing for fishing lures". When I got to the dam, I slipped on a huge flat rock & down in the water I went! We DID find a couple of really nice lures tho. I had to run home & changed into dry shorts & went back out for anopther hour or so, but walking on slippery rocks in my Teva sandals & trying to hold my ankles & feet straight took it's toll.
I actually HOBBLED out of bed this morning!!!! I can hardly walk. I had a hairline fracture in my heel this spring from jumping off a bleacher at the rodeo & now I have to watch it.
BUT.... Like I have said before, it seems the Good Lord knows when we need a break, because I only have 1 job to work on this morning, & I will be at the computer. Easy, take-your-time-type day.

Had a great year with The Fire Combat Challenge. Looking forward to next summer. Posted a time of 2:24 my best yet.Took a few weeks of at the end of the season but back at the gym again and looking to better my time next year.
I need to loose the pounds I gained at Karyn's meet. Bobby, and Nancy were too kind to everyone with the food. Add a few cold ones to that, and I need to put a few more miles on the bike.
I rounded-out the month with 17 miles on the bike. The days are getting shorter, and the air is a little more crisp. The last couple of times to mow the lawn, the pool is covered, and the smell of autumn is definitely in the air. A cool 52 deg's, the sun going down and the smell of woodstoves lighting-up in anticipation of a night in the 30's. The song birds are gone, and the Canada Geese are heading for warmer climates, (and we're the smart ones, ha ha ). What a ride!
I have my eyes on a new carbon fiber road bike, and ever since I started daydreaming about it, my current bike feels heavier with every pedal stroke. ha ha
You ready October? Here we come!
Peace, Bob

A friend of mine just invested in a carbon fiber bike. Weights about as much as a rice crispie square ... hahaha. You can lift it with your pinkie.
She's been having some issues learning how to shift gears. Left her on the road so far 3 times. Twice because her chains got wedged so tightly in the derailer, and once because she got a flat. I hope she does okay with it on our ride today. She's got a Cannondale, and other than the learning curve, she likes it.

I've had my current road bike for over 6 years now, but only one flat so far ... luckily. I have a Masi, and I just love this bike!
We did 33 miles today, and I'm feeling pretty good. Tired, as we woke early this morning to go, ... but good from the ride.
My friend is not new to biking, ... that's why I'm thinking the "issues" are more with her bike, than with her "shifting abilities" as the bike shop that sold it to her has been telling her.
My friend had more "issues" again with this ride. I think she's going back to the shop with it again. Seems her bike was wanting to shift gears on it's own today ... and also got hung up on one gear for her. She's definately not happy with her bike at this point.
Too bad, it's a pretty nice looking bike ... just doesn't ride so good.

Cannondale bikes are top notch - I should know, I currently have 5 of them and I've had many many more in the past. They also use top components.
Her problems with shifting could be in the way she's shifting or more likely the way the shifters and derailleurs are adjusted. The derailleurs are easily adjusted using a screwdriver on the two screws on the side of the derailleurs, literally only takes a couple seconds to fix the problem but you gotta do it in actual riding conditions under a good load. Adjusting them in a parking lot doesn't work because there's not as much tension on the chain. Notice it's usually when you want to go up a hill that the chain starts clinking. The tension in the shifter mechanisms themselves might need to be adjusted. if the levers seem to move on their own they need to be tightened up, usually there's a knob on the top you can turn by hand or sometimes you'll need a screwdriver.
As far as the flat tires, when I was riding it was usually on rural roads with little traffic and sometimes not the best kept. It's not like flats happened all the time to the point it was annoying, but it does happen often enough you don't dare head out on a ride without a spare tube and a tire patch kit.

I'm sure Cannondales are the bomb, ... I see alot of them out on biking events. But honestly, she had just had the thing back for adjustments TWICE, and is needing to go in again now. I think she's got more miles in taking the bike back than she does actually riding it.
We were all riding near her and watching her bike do some pretty funky things while she was riding. She's pretty disheartened by it. I think she's sunk more than 2200. into it.
Could she have gotten a lemon?
