Cal Trotter called from B.C. earlier today to inform us that Crazy George MacKinnon has lost his 7 year battle with cancer. He passed away last Thursday. His Obituary can read at the link below.
Just last Month, those of us attending Dan's Meet in Yarrow, had the honour of spending time with George. In true Letterhead & PinHead style, he shared his tips on triming striping brushes. We're going to miss him.

George was right out there that day, doing and teaching what he loved.

It was a true honor to have him attend our Picnic here at the ranch. It was the first time I met him and I was struck with his passion for the craft and his desire to share it with as many folks as possible.
He will be remembered fondly.

It was only a fleeting brush I had with the man that was "Crazy" George. He was such a gentleman and a talent. In the true spirit of Letterheads everywhere he shared, inspired and taught. Here's a tip he mentioned to me..."Motor oil is for motors not for brushes...use it if you have to, but only temporarily til you have some proper brush oil. Motor oil is better than nothing...but not much." Thanks George...your spirit lives on.

My thoughts go out to George's wife, Susan. George was a huge part of our 'Splash' meet here in Nanaimo back in 2003. He was so willing to teach a pinstriping class. Before that we met at the Boise meet and then passed each other at the Vancouver airport several times returning from Las Vegas sign shows.....always had a smile and a big wave as we rushed to get home after the 'red eye' flight. George was so talented and so willing to share his knowledge.....his passion for paint was always visible.....he will be missed. Susan, take care...you are in our thoughts.

So sorry about losing George. Letterville had mentioned him in the past through what he gave to you of his experience. Please give my regards to his wife, Susan also.

Very sad news. I also had the pleasure of meeting George and Susan at Sue's meet. They drove me back and forth from the hotel every night and he was a hoot to be around. A very talented artist and good man. My thoughts and condolences are with Susan and family. Rest in Peace bro.

I met George & Susan at Sues Splash meet in Nanaimo. I also enjoyed his airbrush course along with him whippin out panels so fast and then cleaning them with a rag before I could ask for one. A truely talented artist doesn't even begin to describe what he could accomplish. I came back to the mainland with him on the ferry and those hours seemed like minutes as a bunch of us just talked like little schoolkids.
I could sit and observe his techniques for hours if I could and enjoyed seeing him again at Dans picnic.
Thanks for those memories George, and all that you gave to help keep the craft alive
