Has anyone tried using a remote access software like "GotoMyPC" to work from home on their work computer that has Gerber software (with the dongle)? I'm wondering if it will work with a dongle protected program.

I use UltraVNC to remote in to my shop PC, I haven't used GotoMyPC but I'm assuming it works on the same principal.
Effectively you are working on the remote PC, you're just not seated in front of it so dongles etc. should not be any consideration.
There are several releases of VNC available free and it works very well. If your Gerber machine is on a LAN you might find there is a bit of tweaking required on the router, I have found it easiest to reserve an address on the router for the PC you want remote access to. A static IP with your ISP simplifies things quite a bit too.

I have remote access to my shop from home,
everything but gerber software works.
So I use signlab for my designing from home.
I will never buy another gerber product.

I use windows xp and I can access Gerber on my shop system from home just using the windows remote assistant. The program runs alittle slower but not much.

Tony Traveras told me I had to have a security device on my home computer also. Since I don't
I can't do what you seem to be able to do.
He said they were gonna look into that but I
haven't heard anything from Gerber.
I have the original edge with the newest software.
and a networked system through cisco pix and a server. Maybe that is the difference.
Dave, I am Semi-Retired, and getting lazier by the day. But I still pay the bills and check the mail.
My Son and Nephew do most of the work. My wife
does most of the bookkeeping.
I still try to keep up with you guys. LOL

Bil maybe I misunderstood what you wanted but by no means do you need a KEY for the home computer.

In all the Gerber software prior to Omega 2.51 there was a check to see if Composer was being operated remotely. This is because in the early days we found people running the software off a server with 2 or more workstations and if you read the license this was improper. When I heard that people wanted to operate remotely ( this may have been your post or email) I looked into this and changed the software for the next release which is now Omega 2.51. It will only allow you to execute ONE copy of Composer remotely but thats better then none. Bill you don't really mean never do ya?

I use GoToMyPC and love it. Since you're accessing your work computer exactly as if you were sitting at it (i.e. if the monitor's on you can see everything being operated remotely) there's no issues regarding software keys. Gerber software works fine. GoToMyPC is super simple, works great, and you can try it free. Go ahead - you won't regret it, and may even wonder how you got along without it.

If gotomypc wants your credit card before letting you try it free... just back out & decline. You will get an email the next day or so allowing you the free trial without the credit card.

So,
Tony
It seems to me that Gerber owes me an upgrade to 2.51. I never heard from you guys. You can't blame
me for being a little teed off.

I still don't see Gerbers problem,
as when you use the computer remotely
you can only use it one user at a time
regardless of how many remote connections
you have. I could not have two or three
designers working on one program as all
but one are locked out. Luckily I use sign lab for
all my designing anyway and it allows me to
do it remotely. Eventually I will probably
use sign lab for everything, and I will buy
hardware that is run by signlab.
So Gerber should pay closer attention when
guys like me with a legitimate complaint
are ignored, we go elsewhere.
