so can you mix 12 hr. size with quick size and get a middle of the road size? I have some 24" tall wood letters I have to have to have done in 1 day. They are too big to do with quick size and no time for slow. now what??
The third poster, Joe Cieslowski, has a technique that works very well for him. Perhaps you have the materials in stock.
Another possibility is to size a portion of your letters with quick size, say the number that you can gild in an hour. Wait an hour to add the size to the second batch, etc., until you have a lineup of letters. Start gilding on your first batch and the size should be set up just right for the second one when you are finished gilding.

LeFranc slow (12hr) size is ready in about 20hrs and holds its tack for one to two weeks. LeFranc quick (3hr) size is advised to be only used for speeding up the initial tack time of the slow. Mixed 50/50, it is ready overnight (approx 8hrs) yet retains the tack up to a week. I have used this technique, where on a job in Killarney I sized the shop fascia on a Wed, developed a bad cold (Killarney, damp, misty, magical, you get the picture)and was unable to return until the following Wed, the size still had a good enough tack to take the gold, and provide me a brilliant finish.

Hi Liza...Welcome to letterville. Aren't you the incredibly talented person who did the marbling on the Estes mural in Aledo? If so, I got to say you rock, girl ! Hope to see you and your hubby again somewhere...can you get up to Moose Jaw on '07?
As far as the gold size...yes, I too have done it. 50/50 sounds good, or a little less quick size of real hot and humid.
