3 more days till my travels start & I am really getting stoked to be heading into my first Letterhead meet. My love for this craft has taken my life on a 16 year journey that has made every other hobby pale by comparison. I am so ready to kick my sign career into high gear from this meet!
but, I can't deny, I really love playing music too!
quote:Originally posted by Dusty Campbell: What's everyone play or like music-wise?
I emailed Dusty already, but I'll paste the "music-wise" part here for others:
quote: I have done some jamming in my time... far more then actual bands with practice & set lists... so I really like the freeform spontenaity & the little bit of pressure to be on, to anticipate, & be forced to respond in a live situation... & not lose it.
I'll play just about anything. I lived around Chicago when I graduated in 1977. I had been seeing all the great jazz fusion cats for the previous 2 years... the 4 years before that, starting in middle school, I was completely immersed in "classic rock"... (back when it was new) all day, every day... so I can jam to most classic rock, & I can still enjoy most of it... but I never listen to it by choice anymore. I can also get into some fast, funky syncopated fusion instrumentals... that's still fun! ...I also had several years of listening to Reggae & Grateful Dead & jamming with other hippy-type dead heads doing classic rock medleys... laying down non-stop hour-long sets of one-song blending into another. That was a real party-pleaser... back then anyway
I even went back to my roots & had a second hard-core death metal & speed metal lifestyle for awhile after my divorce, which continued into my grunge influenced 90's
But, after that I calmed down my lifestyle & started playing more Stevie Ray Vaughan style blues, traditional blues, & returning to a little bit of jazz/funk stuff..

Hi everyone! :-) I'm going to the Dixie Meet and I don't live far from it, maybe 30-40 minutes or so. I will be attending on the 13th & 14th, but not the 15th. I have a lake house where I live and am offering my living room to any distant travelers that need a place to bunk up for free,... if you don't mind air mattresses. Actually, they are quite comfortable.:-) I have sleeping accomidations for 2 singles or 2 couples, or one and the other. Free, no joke! Clean house, classy host. Beer, BBQ, and jams afterwards,... all that.
Anyone interested can e-mail me at tucker-52@charter.net or call me at 770-534-1905.
First come, first serve.
Mark
Edit post: 10-05 The mattresses have been spoken for.

The rebel flag sign kit built by Terry will be the prize in a drawing for the first 50 registrants. It's too late to get in on this one, but we have a pile of other cool door prizes, so send me 40 bucks and come to the Sign Circus.........

Thanks Sonny, Duncan for posting the pics, The kit will I hope will be a project for the meet It would be nice if it gets lots of signatures an striping on it ( thats gonna happen ) Plus it will come with a set of sable lettering brushes from Wrights of Lymm, Just a little request if your in the draw for this and can put anything into the kit then that would b e great too, There is a space for a 2 piece mahl stick, One of the drawers inside is set up for Iwata eclpse airbrushes and two of the drawers are set up for striping brushes, even if it's just a stabillo or a ruler you know what goes in ,cheers As for the panel I got the idea before Sonny said the circus theme, That fiddle took some carving out of precision board! he he cheers Terry

Sorry Tony, Steve and Silvinia - they're the last people I should omit, since they just finished doing the dimensional letters for the gold leaf project we'll be doing. Tony is, of course, the instigator of the Papa Joe's Barber Shop sign at Sunset Valley Ranch in Moncton.
He will also perform his death-defying ice-carving skills at the Dixie Meet. ONE WEEK FROM TODAY - pack your bags, run away, join the CIRCUS......

What kind of clothing does a person wear down South this time of year? Is it still summer there? I'm going to search the attic for a Hawaiian shirt with a Kudzu print. I'm sure I have a couple -- everything else is in that damn attic. Did you hear me, Jane!

I can coordinate a window to do in my town...got a storefront (cafe) that is willing to have us out to do a fall scene. They have 3 fairly large window panels (two panes each)
Let me know who is interested (Adrienne, didnt you inquire about this?)
You may call me at 678.523.6979 or email me direct at foxdesignstudio@yahoo.com
Hope this sounds like fun! Stef

This is Johnathon Bakan the Technical Director at EstiMate Software. It has been a long time since I have posted so I am writing to introduce myself and to indicate that I will be headed out to the Dixie meet this year and am very excited about it!
It has been a long time since EstiMate has been out to a meet so it is about time! Special thanks goes out to Neveman for his encouragement and also to all the 'heads for their support over the years.
That said, are there specific topics Letterheads would like to know about EstiMate? I would assume you want some kind of demo and if so what types of things would you want to see priced or what functions do you want to see demonstrated?
Sonny, I know its not official until the check arrives so I'll tell 'em to get the registration out pronto.
One of the things I've always marveled at being a lurker on this board throughout the years is the musical enthusiasm of all the 'heads. In addition to a high-end creative visual bent you all have got the musical thing going too. Wow! I think it is way cool without a doubt. I make and play handmade flutes and plan to bring some down so if any of you guitarists wanna do some flute and guitar jams, I'd be into it.
Respectfully,
Johnathon Bakan Technical Director EstiMate Software Corp.

If I had a picture of Kudzu, it'd be cool to come up with a shirt for the meet. "Kudzu Bill ... who's your daddy", sort of a theme. I've yet to use the Versa Camm for a shirt print. I wonder if that would be a hit in Georgia, or if I would wind up in jail, or mysteriously disappear in the forest.
On second thought, I think I'll scrap that idea, because I'm wantin' to load up the trunk with peanuts and peaches for the trip home. That way I can create my own gas crisis and be sweet about it at the same time.

Welcome Johnathan - I talked to Pat and he said you might decide to come. You'll be able to give first-hand advice to the winner of the Estimate door prize. I can also quit looking for a flautist. (Rapid Ray will be our flatulist)
Sue - sleep? what's that?
Nancie - is it time to cut onions ?
EVERYBODY ELSE: If you're planning on coming and haven't sent in your registration, please just pick up the phone and let me know. I will be awake, no matter what time zone you're in or when you call. Former hosts will attest to that. 770-923-9933
Also, I will post a separate thread for those flying in. Add your arrival time, and if you have room for somebody or if you need to share a ride, we'll try to hook you up, if possible, but don't look for me at Baggage Claim.
Less than a week to go, so run away and join the Sign Circus..........

I just got word that Bobbie Rochow's persuasive efforts have finally convinced Jillbeans to join the Circus. (Ray and I have been trying for months)
But there's a catch: sharing a room with Sheila and Linda Silver Eagle - that much energy in one space could take out a city block......

Yup, it's true....Sonny and Rapid are better at guilt trips than even my dear old Mom! Seriously, tho, there is a delay in my "big job" (not my fault) so I figured what the heck. This one sounds too good to miss, and Bobbie and I just may be the new Thelma and Louise! Bring on the PA faction! See yins soon. Love.....Jill
