I've known several lady signpainters and always noticed they had beautiful nails...always manicured and polished.

One time I asked how they kept their nails so nice...since mine always looked like Crap...she told me hers looked like crap too...thats why she polished them so you couldn't see the paint under her nails.

How about the rest of you gals? What color hides paint the best? Any home remedies to make my nails look like yours (short of nail polish)?

Personally I like it when I get green around the cuticles..it has created more than one conversation of interest. Once a customer told me my hands looked like Herman Munsters!

I told him he was ugly!

I am proud of my 1-Shot painted nails.
I wear them as a badge of honor, and they are very short.
If I do have to "dress up" I just buy a package of those fancy press-on fingernails.
That might look weird on you, Monte!
The only polish I wear is on my toenails....right now they are black!
Sincerely....Jill

I agree with you, Jill! If I painted my nails, the first time I had my hands in thinner, off it would come! I don't bother. I usually do have One Shot under them, & stuck in the cuticles! And they always break off anyway. I figured I look like I work hard, & I do!

However...my hubby requested that I paint my toenails to look like a girlie-girl, so they are burgandy.

I came across this one night looking for something to cover my naturally long nails looking decent...... Signpainters NAILS

BTW I have not tried it....but thought if there should be any type of nail polish for sign people. It should be this stuff.

Also, soaking your nails at night in dish soap and warm water is great for keeping them looking sharp, also apply a ton of moisturizer...

Nail Polish? what's that?
I worked in a print shop for a decade-n-a-half.... Could never wear the stuff cause for the same reasoning that Sue stated earlier. Streaks of color left on artwork, while folding paper, etc.
Plus I don't have the patience for fluff. [Roll Eyes]

my 2 cents.

OK, if it's show & tell, here is mine!
(Karyn you are more flexible than I am)
We always called out long second toes "Welsh Toes", everyone in my family has 'em.
My nails are clean right now cuz I am fresh back from vacation. Usually there is paint in the cuticles.
If you are wondering about the bruise, my foot was run over by an outta-gas car I was pushing the other day!
love....Jill

Ok....Old Paint sent me this picture of his "toenail."

To me, it looks more like a dried up potato chip....but here it is....

No offense, guess I'm not a "foot" guy....but it looks like some of these toes need a tag hanging from them...hhahahaha...C'mon, I'm just having some fun...

Oh my Todd! That is awful! OP, is that really YOUR toe? You chew that thing or what? Lol!

So Karen, THAT is what you do....just keep filling in the bottoms as they grow out? I was just wondering this morning if I had to clean the old stuff off & repaint the whole feet full of toenails!

Oh, & I also have some kucky toe nail fungus on my one toe, so I have to file it down every month or so to make it smooth again. I tried Vicks Vaporub on it, didn't kill the fungus, neither did tea tree oil. My podiatrist said to just paint it because it was healthier than taking Lamosil for it, so that is what I do. Now we are getting waaaay off the topic!

You DON"T want a pic of my poor 'ol footie!

And Jill, that foot looks so sore! My goodness, I feel so bad! The black polish looks good tho!

Lolita, is it the bleach that takes the paint out of the nails? I will have to try that. Amazing!

Summer time colour for my toes is Hot Pink baby! [Smile] I usually do Red in the winter.

I've been sporting a french manicure on my hands these days. My fingernails grow like weeds, so they are of decent length right now. I usually keep them short, but have decided to try something pretty on my nails for awhile. I don't have my nail too long, I just don't know how gals do ANYTHING with those long claws!

It's a full time job keeping them pretty tho.
I keep a little nail kit in a cabinet by my couch, and touch them up while watching tv on a regular basis. If I'm painting, which is rare these days, they are history. Even coating out a board is a challenge, if any mineral spirits ever have to hit my hands, I'm usually screwed.

I do like having a nice french manicure tho. Keeps the fingertips looking nice and clean. I've gotten pretty good at doing them quickly now. Use tiny strips of vinyl for my masking. Works better than the strips that come with the kit. [Smile]

The best thing for dirty fingernails is sprayable/rollable latex paint mask.
Peel that stuff off the ends of your fingers after using it and presto, cleaner than any amount of scraping with an exacto knife.

BTW shouldn't disgusting toenail pics be kept to the appropriate fettish wesites?

I ALWAYS paint all my nails RED. I keep them very short. The reason I paint them is not only the fact that I'm a girly-girl, but they have split and peeled off in layers all my life, the red hides that.

I was delighted to discover that paint thinner does not disturb my polish at all. It's the lacquer thinner I hate. And yes, I do have to be careful not to leave a red streak on things, but that isn't too hard.

BTW, my daughter has SHORT second toes... can't find this on any other family member.

Bobbie...they make chemical resistant rubber gloves....that don't balloon up and break at the fingertips when they come into contact with thinners, etc.

Check at Home Depot or like stores.

Yes Bobbie, it's the bleach, just make sure you finish with a good wash with a mild soap, takes out the odor of bleach and this whole process leaves you with very clean nails.

Try "Greased Lightning". It is a cleaning product available at Lowes or at Dollar General. It will get most of what mineral spirits will not clean off.
