Does anyone know a company that can make molds to do HDU copies. I need someone that can make the same ones over and over from an original (approx 300-400).
Thanks!

Good question. I'd think size is the big key. Ive cast both HDU and resin Amy and resin is easier/less tempermental. Are you looking for just the molds or someone to actually cast these?

Goldenwest Manufacturing does this. 530-272-1133 There are a lot of factors and some limitations, (like they only prime the finished copy, you have to finish paint)but I have a couple of their samples and the quality is nice.

News to me Dave - that's why I called Bill (or vice versa - stay tuned Bill; no word yet!). Goldenwest used to do castings; they sell only the materials now, unless I missed something on their webpage.

Yep Give Goldenwest a call. They do moldings and castings. They just bid me a job last week. You just need to provide an original, and make sure it is clean.

No problem Rick, I actually called Goldenwest with a few questions about their resins because I havn't used theirs before, They were very nice and offered to quote me on our project. I decided to let them give me a quote to see if my price was in line or if I should have you contact them directly if they were considerably lower. Their number was pretty close to mine so I chose to move forward. If we win the bid Rick I will probably use their resin for your project.
I'm still interested in working with you on this project but, I wouldn't be offended if you want to feel Goldenwest out and see if they would be a better fit for you.
Unfortunately due to my experience pouring HDU I wouldn't be confident enough to tackle Amy's project. HDU is really tricky to keep air bubbles from opening on the face or surface during the pour. Pouring HDU is fun but can be pretty inconcistant.

Not to highjack a thread...I did talk to the customer late this morning, and she said her boss killed the project due to cost. She said he was looking at cast aluminum at something like $500 a pop - to which I said 'you didn't show him the quote or preliminary drawings, did you? Resin casting is way cheaper, and I can get it to look just the same as cast aluminum.' "Oh..."
Just can't educate a cheapskate customer - but I'm hoping they'll still place an order!

Wow, and I think $500 sounds fair for cast aluminum 12x24 panel. Of course you could shoot the cast resin w/Sculpt Nouveau pewter metal coating and it would be darn tough to tell the difference at 2/3 the price. I'm just not sure about the expansion rates.
