A few weeks past my family took a backpacking trip. Lo and behold, in the middle of the forest was this rather remarkable tree. Upon seeing it, the first thought produced by my brain was, "Only Grampa Dan could possibly have planted such a tree."
In PA, main backpacking trails are marked with orange blazes on trees. Sometimes, if the trail is difficult, there will be arrows painted to help you find your way. I thought this tree was especially helpful.
Deri recently commented to me that my picture was too serious. Here is a less serious picture of my stepson / arch-enemy Zach and me. I have a mouthful of apple that I am valiantly struggling to keep from spewing out due to the tortures of my vile tormentor.
You see? He has granola and is SMILING!!! Eeeeeviillll!

I've been to Pennsylvania and know how that tree got that way... but I'm not telling.

I bet Dan has a bag of magic "Sawatzky Dust" that he carries with him all of the time to scatter hither and yon. Just so stuff like this happens!

As I understand it, the Indians would prune and bind the trees with leather straps when they were saplings to grow that way.
Their type of road map to a river or lake so that others that happened along would know the way.
But "Sawatzky Dust" is good with me...
