The past week has been one endless series of crisis at our house. Everyone has to have them once in a while... and it seems this week was very much our turn.
Through a series of sudden circumstances we suddenly had ten minature horses on our little ranch. We are full at six. New fences and a new small barn became priority number one. That put me instantly three days behind schedule. The good news is the new barn I was going to build this fall is now done. Its also kinda fun to look out the studio window and see a genuine HERD of horses in the paddocks.
This evening Janis & Bec were called to a very important but last minute meeting... meaning I was suddenly in charge of Giggle Ridge. I got to work with the greenest of our staff by coincidence meaning the task required my full and undivided attention. No problem, even though I don't normally operate the till for very good reason. I think it was the busiest night we've had in a long time. But we got through it and I'm sure Janis will eventually balance the till.
All was going well until something major happened in the guest bathroom. After trying to plunge it for 15 minutes I decided its a job requiring specialized tools. We closed it down until I can deal with it. I love to work a plumbing snake!
I would have done it tonight but I got a call from Janis just before closing... forty miles distant on the freeway with a flat tire and Phoebe in the back seat. New priority for me.
Tomorrow I'll deal with the toilet first thing. (my favorite job). Then its off to town to see if the brand new tire can be salvaged.
I figure I should get back to the regularly scheduled program sometime after lunch unless another surprise is waiting... which it may well be.
The entire list of smaller events over the last week would take a lot of typing to chronical... and it doesn't matter much in any case. These things happen to all of us from time to time... sometimes, like we've experienced, all in a row.
After a solid week of these kinds of events I'm just about ready to get back to normal... but that might have to wait for a while... like until after the picnic.

PS... just as I finished typing this post I got a call from Janis who is still up at the golf (tying to balance that till probably). It seems our storage freezer for our ice cream stock is on the fritz... but at least we caught it before the melt down.
And it gives me something to do while I wait for my tire to be fixed. I can pick up a new freezer while I'm in town.

Dan , Norman Rockwell chronicaled the fire that distroyed his studio and the props he had collected over a lifetime for his paintings, by sketching the fireman fighting the blaze as keystone cops...It must have be heartbreaking but he still was able to make light of it all...Hope the shift is in the wind for you my friend...Pat

After working out in the sunshine on the barn for three days I have the most awesome farmer tan ever. The fences are all in great shape now... no worry until next year.
And fiddling with the toilet up at the golf got ALL the stains, paint and grease off my hands... expecially when I scrubbed so hard afterwards.
It was time to rotate the tires on the truck anyways.
And the freezer... well we don't have to worry about that old thing anymore.
And all the other things that got hurriedly done are just that... DONE!
Somehow I never really got flustered this week, but instead managed to take it all in stride. Janis did almost as well too. Knowing 60 - 70 friends are coming to visit in less than 10 days keeps a smile on your face! And Phoebe always knows when a big old hug is desperately needed. They are the very best!
When things get back to normal.. (whatever that is) it will seem like relaxing.

Hey Dan I found this quote and it made me giggle. I hope it puts a smile on your face too.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. ~Herm Albright
I've noticed that positive attitudes are contagious, thanks for spreading that, I seem to be particularily succeptible to catching them from you.
