When I used to double click on a jpg file, it would pop open in "Fax and Picture Viewer". Now, without knowingly changing anything, the "Dell Image Expert" program opens. It also has in the upper right corner a logo that says "Dell Picture Studio powered by Shutterfly."
Does anyone know how to restore fax and picture viewer as the default way to open at an image file?

Go into window explorer, use the right mouse click, from this menu select 'open with...' then select 'choose program'. Select your favourite program, then check the check box to always use that program to open up that type of file, and then click the OK button. viola, and enjoy.

Right-click a jpg file, and select "Open With.." then select "Choose program..." From the resulting list, choose the program you want to use to open jpegs and make sure the box is checked for "Always use this program to open these files". Click Ok and you should be done.
Just realised this is in Win2000, but it should be more or less the same in XP.

Dave, I use ACDsee 5.0 as a viewer- it's great. It was a freebee with a computer magazine a few months ago. Two years ago the previous version (4.0) was a freebee too, but 5 is way better.

Dave, both Peter and Graham where saying the samething. HAHAHA
Just a side note to this if you do not have the "Open with" option when you click on a file in Windows explorer just hold down the Shift key and then right click the file you need to open.

When you install new programs, many will ask you which files you want to associate with them. Most offer a list with check boxes next to them of the file types they can use.
To avoid this, it's often wise to do a "custom install" instead of a typical or default one. This gives you more options of how files are handled, wehich parts of a program package's features you will load and often prevets the new program from handling files. Your original file associations won't change and the program you are used to will still open the files first.

Here is the other solution to change what progam opens a file this one is permanent. This also applies to all file types that may be on your machine.
1. got to any windows explorer window 2. select tools then folder options 3. in the folder options window select file the types tab 4. find your file extention there and set the progam that will access it (in the opens with dialog)
