O.K. I'll admit it...I am dazzled by CorelX3. Right up until I start using it in real design application. Sure auto-kerning is nice as a mathmatical idea, but visually...whell I'm sure your aware. I've gone thru the tutorials and still havn't figured out how to manually kern a line of text without having to write each letter individually. What am I missing?

Bill..After you type in a line of text...click on the "shape" tool that is second from the top on the left side of your window. Under, and to the left, of each letter there is a little square. Click on the squares and they turn black. Then you can either drag them left or right or up and down to manually "kern" the letters.
To ensure that you drag absolutely horizontal, hold down the Ctrl key while dragging.
OR you can use the left or right arrows to move the letters once one or more of the "little squares" is highlighted in black.

Dave, DUH! Thanks a bunch. Seems silly but something small like that really speeds up the layout process.

You can also select individual letters with the shape tool by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the seperate little squares below the letters or select with the shift key selected. Also you will notice the property bar changes and you can nudge the kerning with it. Hope that makes sence.
P.S. I very seldom have to break text apart unless I am doing a complex effect.

If any letters should get accidently shifted from the baseline, re-select the little 'handles', (marquee select all or select individual letters while holding down Control key)then hit Alt+F12 or go to Text on the menu bar and hit 'Align to Baseline'. In the same way you can get back to the original in stages or in one step (via selection choice) by going to 'Text' and hitting 'Straighten Text'.
