We are taking graphics off a boat and it is paint and gold leaf. Can anyone tell us the best way to get that off fast. We are using easy off now and it is working on the paint but not on the gold leaf and it is taking forever on both.
Thanks, Randy

hahahaaa...looks like the guy/gal that did the gold leaf job did it right! Gold is impervious to just about everything except cyanide and aqua regia!
My advice is to use a very fine sandpaper to abrade thru the gold....then the easyoff will be able to attack the size and whatever is under it.

Interlux paint remover. This the best stuff made for removing painted lettering from boats.
It is nasty stuff so be well ventilated and protected. It isn't cheap but it works great.
Edited to add to read the instructions thoroughly. Follow the instructions thoroughly. If you don't you will be messing up thoroughly. Ask me how I know... thoroughly.

The gold has more than likely been cleared with a catalyzed urethane....tough stuff. Try laying some aggressive masking tape or duct tape down over the gold leaf letters, press it down real good, leaving a little bit extra unattached. Grab the unattached part and yank up quickly. More than likely the clear und the gold will come up leaving only a hint of the sizing left on the surface. You will be left with the clear that overlapped onto the boat finish or outline, depending how the job was done, but you'll have less to fool with.

George, I am going to have to try that the next time I have to remove gold. What an awesome tip! Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your help. We got most of it off but there is still a little bit on the edges of the graphic that won't come off. We have been there a total of 7 hours. The area is about 15x80in, and it is a solid area.
Just wondering what you would charge for a removal like that and to replace ith same area with vinyl lettering? The boat is in the water at a pier.
Thanks, Randy
