Ahhhh!!!!#$#$(*& Today while taking off some lettering on a log truck, a little dirty gop of EZ OFF oven cleaner went right into my left eye. I put my head straight down so it won't get in any deeper. My eye teared up enough to flush it out. And I was back to work, didn't even mess up my make-up. That's what I get for not standing on a box looking down, rather than looking up at the truck (Peterbilt) door.

I'm sure that feels about the same as a shot of rattlesnake venom in the eye, something I know first hand. Since most females wouldn't be anywhere near the snake, they are unlikely to share my adventure. My wife is more inclined to have the EZ-Off experience, but not from removing paint.

I can't relate to either experience, but I sure can imagine how that feels. I'm glad it turned out okay Alicia. David, I assume you recovered as well, since you seemed to have the use of both eyes at Lodi. [Smile]

I was using both eyes and both brain cells in Lodi. Only one of either was operational when I was playing with the snake.

You're a lucky lady. I had a branch 'poke into my eye' once, had to go to the doctor, they put some gel type ointment and an eye patch, told me I would be ok in a couple of days. So I had to run around like a pirate.
Yes get the crate or box next time.

Geez Alicia!!! Sorry to hear of something like that happening, you were fortunate to do the correct thing...but please take care in the future.

Stephen..I have to agree with your question..."where were the safety glasses?"

I have had the misfortune and, sometimes the good fortune, to have needed to wear glasses since age 4.

In adult life I have always had lenses with "hardened" glass, and they have protected my eyes on many occasions, from welding spatter to paint spray blow back to walking by a low hanging tree branch.

Eyesight is precious folks...protect it at any cost...even if it involves wearing clumsy safety glasses!!!

David, you're usually a funny guy, but this snake business, man I don't know what category that falls into. Were you invited to one of those backwoods snake-handling church services? [Eek!]

While we're on the subject, my brother in law just got done telling me that one of the worst things you can get in your eye is the liquid catalyst used for fiberglass work. He said you have something like 10 seconds to rinse it, or goodbye eye. [I Don t Know]

James. If you are refering to MEK..your B-I-L is probably correct.

Back years ago we would almost wallow in the stuff (well..didn't wear protective gloves, didn't worry about it, just wash it off with acetone)

Nowadays, I take more precaution with epoxy products..THEY are even more dangerous than any polyester products.

Edited to say...Epoxy resins and their "activators" can and might and probably will build up in a persons body, and can, might and will end up causing a reaction. (speaking from personal experience)

Be careful with stuff you "think" you can use!

A few years ago, my shop foreman had a Mojave Rattler, which he caught in West Texas when he went out there to install some signs. With its combination of neuro and hemo toxins, the Mojave is the most poisonous snake in North America. We named it "Uncle Sam", because... He Wanted YOU!

One spring, Sam woke up on the wrong side of his den and was striking at everything in sight. Billy put him in an enclosure screened with 1/2" hardware cloth and then came into my office and told me Sam had struck at him and he could see his fangs and all the way down his throat. I went out and was looking in the top of the cage from about four inches away and Sam struck at the top of the cage and hosed venom in my eye.

I ran into the bathroom and stuck my face in running water for about 15 minutes while Billy got Poison Control on the phone. He said that after they quit laughing, they told him I was doing the right thing. About that time, one of my wife’s friends dropped by to visit. After hearing Billy on the phone and seeing me with my head in the sink, she just shook her head and left.

For about a year afterward, that eye felt dry and sore.

Actually it is MEKP...Methyl Ethyl Keytone Peroxide.....Neither one would be good to get in your eye....Most people I know who work with composites won't even have MEK in their shop...nasty stuff!

Glad you are OK Alicia !

Sodium Hydroxide (lye) is what is in EZ Off oven cleaner. I do think that lye does burn. And my left eye is a little red, but it doesn't itch.

Oh yuk, Alicia! Glad you got it out fast. I had an uncomfortable experience a month or 2 ago eating spicy boiled shrimp when some of the spicy stuff flew up and hit me in the left eye. I don't think cayanne would do as much physical damage as lye, but I know it really hurt. Glad you're ok girl. It's hard to paint with just one eye...

Now if were wearing that black cowboy hat that you had in Lodi, it might not have happened. I think that you should send a new picture to the Shortreeds so everyone can see how great you looked.
