the thing that really pi$$es me off is that I had NO notice. NONE. advantage sign supply says MUTOH gave no notice, and Mutoh says they gave distributors notice back in April.
DAMN this industry of finger-pointers. I'd honestly just like to challenge them to a simple game of SKULL-CRACKIN..

Last year when I had a Mutoh here, I had to get new inks. I was sold the new inks and was told that whenI switch to these, all the inks have to be swtiched and the machine has to be pruged first. After that you can't go back. I was under the understanding, that this was something that I could do.

Not much different than Roland change to Maxx inks in December.
Roland did however 1. Give Notice (explained why and for what benifit) 2. Buy back unused Cartridges 3. There was no changeover charge, they made the upgrade user friendly, upgrades to firmware were automatically d/loaded.

All Mutoh distributors were notified a couple of months ago. The problem is that the distributors were not being credited for the inventory that the held.
The Mutoh website had the announcement months ago that the inks would be discontinued. I agree that they should've taken them back. I sold my unused cartridges to another Mutoh user when I changed over.
BTW, make sure you buy the conversion kit AND have cleaning cartridges available that are at least half-full.

I have been very happy with my Mutoh. My dealer has excellent tech support & great service.
I purchased a Mutoh 36" and a Graphtec FC7000 42" for less $$$ than a versacamm would have cost.
I think it may be the fault of your dealer about the warning of the ink changeover.
quote: Hello, Mutoh Falcon Outdoor Printer owner:
You may be aware that Mutoh has released a new EcoSolvent ULTRA ink for your printer. These new inks are more abrasive resistant, dry faster, offer more vibrant color and... Cost Less! The current price for the ULTRA ink is $59 per cartridge.
However, before you can use the ULTRA Ink in your PLUS Ink printer, you will need to perform a conversion process to flush the PLUS ink from the printer and to replace the head wiper and the waste tubing.
The kits are now available for drop ship from Mutoh if you are ready to convert your Plus ink printer to the new Ultra Ink.
IMPORTANT: The new ink is slightly more solvent than the PLUS ink. Use of the ULTRA Ink in a PLUS printer without performing the conversion WILL DAMAGE the printer.
The cost of the kit for a 6-color printer is $360. The cost of the kit for a 4-color Junior is $240. You get one set of ink and the wiper and waste tubes that need to be replaced.
You will also need a set of cleaning carts for the printer. They are $45 per cartridge. If you have full cleaning carts or carts that have only been used once, you can use those.
I've attached a PDF with instructions on performing the conversion yourself. Tech Support estimates about 30-45 minutes to do the conversion (not counting the cleaning cycle). So, you can do the conversion yourself if you want. Mutoh is requiring that a waiver be signed prior to doing so. You may also have GEI-Calgraph do the conversion for a flat fee of $650.
If you want to order the kits, please fill out the Conversion Authorization and fax it to my attention at 866.881.1559. I can process the kit order as soon as I have that form. If you would like to have GEI-Calgraph do the conversion, please let me know that and I'll see what is involved to set that up.
The PLUS Ink is still available, however, it is anticipated that Mutoh will be discontinuing production of that ink at some point in the near future. You should never combine Plus Ink and Ultra Ink in the printer.
