I think it's nice to give the sign well-deserved credit as a landmark. It reminds me of our beach pointer.

That beauty is the subject of countless t-shirts, paintings, posters, stickers, you name it.
I have only heard one person (who had just moved here) complain about it. I'm sure he has learned to love it like the rest of us.
