I have been tripped up by this font before. If I could remember what job it was for...I'd go look...but I can't. Looks similar to Futura, but its not.
And please don't say anything about the butt ugly layout. I tried talking my customer into letting me change it but there are many more banners like this around their factory. He did tell me it was from a Sign-A-Rama shop that is no longer in business.

Actually Laura, it is Futura. Not futura black condensed, but futura black that has been squished and kerned with more space between the letters. The "L" gives it away that it was squished.
Thats my take on it!

Futura Medium does have some different characters than Bold or Black does. It is just the nature of that beast.
My guess is that that is Futura Black that is squished. Do one letter and impose it over the layout and you will see.

My apologies, the font I squished was Futura XBlk BT, and I had mistakenly called it "black" which is a totally different family just as Fred pointed out.
I still say by the look at that "L", it was squished.
