David Butler was kind enough to give me a sneak peek at the finished maquette of the mural he will lead in Lodi... ITS A REAL BEAUTY! - Classic Butler!
If you are lookingfor me to post it here... well I'm not going to. I don't have the authority to post someone elses artwork but hopefully either Dave or Tony will do it very soon.
Did I mention the design is AWESOME?
I am SO EXCITED to be going to Lodi... in only a few weeks now (Kim will give us the exact time - right down to the second I'm sure) we will be there slinging paint with a wonderful crew!
And even though Dave Butler's mural will be so awesome (like Jay's) it won't make him (or Jay) exempt from a little heckling from the Sawatzky team... I hear the Butler gang will be just as pokey as Jay's team.
My flights are booked and confirmed, everything is set...
GO TEAM TO!

I saw it a while back, before it was completely done, it is awesome!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the final version....even more forward to seing it's execution....and most forward to seeing all of you!!!! So far all three maquettes I have seen are top notch...although the standard has been set high I have a feeling that the other murals are going to measure up too. It's going to make it tough to live up to in Moose Jaw in 2007, but with Tony's notes we are going to do our best to come close. LODI...bring it on!

If it's left up to each participant I have no idea just how folks will even be able to choose just which mural they will paint on... they will all be SO AWESOME!
I suspect folks will gravitate to the murals and styles which appeal to them most. Some leaders are using OneShot paint, others acrylics. Most of the murals require an ability to paint a pretty straight line, while my crew has to be able to adapt to my wiggly style.
Some murals are situated pretty high up requiring brave souls who have no fear of heights, while other murals are low to the ground and can accomodate folks who don't want to venture off terra firma.
Some of the murals are small and will only have room for a few painters. Others are larger. My mural is one hundred feet long and will have room for lots who want to try their hand.
Each mural has a different subject and style and each will appeal to folks for different reasons.
Some of the murals will be in the sun, others made in the shade.
Some of the muralists will be up early and paint long into the night while others will keep more to banker's hours.
Some of the leaders have folks who they have worked with before on other similar projects and will have more of a dedicated crew while some of the leaders will take anyone who wants to paint.
Hopefully most of the folks who come will be brave enough to ask to paint on more than one mural during the weekend for it is a rare opportunity to paint with some of the best... I know I hope to do just that!
Or Tony and his crew may decide to appoint muralists to each mural... there is so much to do and only a short time to do it.
If you are coming to this event, please don't be shy... no matter how it is decided where you paint, don't hesitate to volunteer your services... grab a brush and a can of paint and step up to a FUN TME!

Dan - that was very well said. I bet you pondered that one all day!! I'm pretty sure you covered every scenario there!!
Lodi has no idea what is about to hit them. I would venture to say that Gary, Noel and Mark's designs will be even more spectacular than what's been done so far. I can't imagine what that town will think when we all leave. So much good work from so many talented people. We're all lucky to be part of it - and they are so lucky to have Tony living there. They'll realize that by the week's end.
Still much more to do to prepare for our 'team' - whoever they may be!!
We're in the shade on the North side - right across from a bar and grill - we're using OneShot - we're using technology and paint masks and spraying hecklers with fire hoses and using foam brushes and quills and fitches and Dibond and we won't be too high up and we have a party at our wall on Friday night courtesy of the bank I am designing for. So if that sounds good and you don't want to travel far for the Friday night party (did I cover all the possibilities, Dan?) then come work on a 15' x 48' mural. It'll be the only cutout paneled one with a little 3-D action.
And I'll have cute little ol' guy named Bill Riedel working with me. They'll be standing in line just to hang with Papa Smurf!! If I could only get him in some pink shorts!!

I met with our committee today, and the bank employee in charge of event planning, and she has the committee invited and all the artists...invitation only... she asked that the bank wants all to see what is happening, and possibly some entertainment...i suggested the free monkey show, the italian guy turns the crank (me) and the monkey (jay)runs around painting in pink shorts.... if you can get Bill to where them, they'll be doubly entertained....

Do you honestly think that it would be possible to do a good job while wearing PINK SHORTS and listening to all the spectators laughing? What a challenge!

You mean people behind me when we paint are laughing at my pink shorts? I always thought everybody was just having a good time at the Walldog meets - and now I found out it is at my expense?
Excuse me, I'm gonna go cry and let out all my emotions. I'm devastated!!
Maybe I need to consider a wardrobe change?

Jay, they weren't laughing at you, but they would laugh at the little old guy with the bald head and white beard trying to be serious about his work.
