Much of Canada, and now the World, is focused on a webcam high in a tree on Hornsby Island, Vancouver. Sometime this weekend, a pair of eggs in the nest of a pair of Bald Eagles will hatch. It's fastinating to watch and listen to Mom and Dad as they take turns minding the nest.

Steve - that's cool. I was just watching, and the eagle got off the eggs and flew off, then returned seconds later and screeched, then chortled a few times towards the camera....then flew off again for a few seconds...returned and nestled itself over the eggs again.
Cool stuff!

How can that bird just sit there looking around...doesn't she know that gas prices are going through the roof, that we have 8 signs that have to be done my Monday, that Iran is trying to develop nuclear power, that Wal-Mart is running Mom and Pop out of town?
Good grief...get with program bird.

Facts about the birds and their location (according to their BB).
They are 23 years old (they live to 30) They have raised 15 fledglings in 16 years. The tree is 300 years old and 18 ft in diameter The nest is 120 ft up 18 ft in circumference...its takes 3 men fingertip to fingertip to surround the tree

The first egg was supposed to hatch last Wednesday. I've been holding my breath ever since. They better hatch soon....
By the way, if you get a black screen instead of a picture, it's because of the high traffic on the site. It will probably get worse once the eaglets hatch. Oh, don't forget to turn on the sound.

I can't believe I actually sat here watching a big chicken look around. That is just about the most boring thing I've ever watched, and I'm still watching it.
Has anybody actually seen any eggs?

Sad news, the eggs turned out to be infertile, non-viable ones and the mother eagle ate them. Glad I didn't see it live. The website has some interesting info.

I had a bad feeling about it when I was watching her earlier this week. She got up and changed positions, and when she did I saw that there was one egg where 3 had been. I gulped. The egg left looked kind of cracked. She was pecking at it, and was trying to put stuff around it and herself before sitting back down.
I was hopeful that the other two eggs were actually still under stuff where I couldn't see them. I was also hoping that my feeling was wrong about the one left.
Bummer.
