I do a lot of work for differnt sign companies on my CNC flat bed router and I use SignLab 5 to program the jobs. They always e-mail me the file(s) in .eps format and up until now there has been no problem importing the files into SignLab and doing my thing with them. Recently, however, a new client using FlexiSign 7.5 Pro sends me .eps files that come out all distorted and not useable when I import the file into SignLab. He's telling me that the problem must be on my end and I'm telling him that I don't think so, but I don't really know what could be causing the corruption.
I was hoping that someone in here may have encountered a similar file problem before and can advise me how to advise him as to what the solution may be. I know this may be a shot in the dark, but what the heck?!? Thanks.

See what happens if he sends the files some other way, like on a disk. Also, have him check the number of bytes in the file before he emails it (right click and choose Properties). When you receive his attachment, make sure the byte count is the same. If not, something is getting scrambled.
My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

sometimes i will send an eps file to another company like gemini or us letters and they will email back that the file corrupt or the letters are distorted.
however when i drag that same file into illustrator and use that eps they are fine. i dont get it either. i suppose taking the file over to illustrator and saving it will fix the problem

Another suggestion might be to have him save his file down to an earlier version. Flexis filters may be different than previous eps files. Ask him to send the file as an .AI extension too.

If he has Illustrator (the Program), he can import to that and resave as Ilustrator Eps at 3.0 as a native file. That should either give a clean file or tell if the file is corrupted.

Mark, after you import from Flexi, select and delete one object, then do a screen refresh to see if you have a double image.
This is four year old information, but I used to see something like that when importing eps files made in flexi. Of the double image, one layer is bad and the other layer is usually good.

when you guys are sending these files are you Zipping them first or just sending them? I used to email files back and forth from the shop to home and if I zipped them first they never were currupt but if i didn'tzip them some times they were corrupt..

I design in Flexi 7.5 and transfer files to Signlab for routing. I save files in .ai format and never have a problem. Early on I tried every available export format from Flexi and this was the only one to give perfect results every time
