I'm wondering if anyone knows an 'easy' way to make bevel face letters in Corel 8. I'm not talking about the part of the extrude tool that makes bevel edges on the face, I want the whole face beveled.

I did find a setting in tools>options> blah>blah>blah, somewhere deep in there, that let me put "front bevel" and "back bevel" into my text menu, but I can't get it to highlight, Can't get these options to click and drag to the properties bar.

'Help' talks about this bevel front option for text, but they just talk about how to do it, not WHERE or how to GRAB AHOLD OF these tool options. I've been in the Corel book, help section, and Searching here, but can't figure it out (if it's posible at all).

Mucho thanks for any help. [Applause]

PS: I did figure a way to inside contour>separate>trim>devide the contour in sections, but that still left me with beveled EDGES, and was time consuming. It actually looks really nice, but I wanted to ask you all about the face deal.

James, You have probably already tried the bevel tool from the extrude roll-up. Just curious, do you intend this to be simple vector work using several colors to produce the prismatic effect or is this to be a printed or screen image?

James, are you wanting a proper prismatic font?
The Fontry here sell them, as do DNA & Letterhead Fonts, but I find them not difficult to make manually, once you get the hang of it. You can work with ANY font you like then.

edited to add basic instructions:

take the word printed in the font you require. Convert to curves. Set it in outline mode. Duplicate it on top of itself. Now it may help you to make some guidelines in certain letter vertical centres & some horizontal stroke centres, say top, mid & base. Now work on the top copy of the fony, use a single node editing tool & lift the corners you wish to & shift them to the centres. Make new points/nodes if needed. You're only trying to create half a letter- the shiniest bit, say, eg the upper left halves of everything.

Dave Grundy has a Corel How-to on the step by steps page on how to do prismatic lettering in Corel. I have one there also on how to beveled edges.

Those are really-nice how-tos by Dave and Stevo. I'll have to study them again and see if I'm doing anything more or less efficient. I forgot why I don't usually use the Extrude/Bevel effect command. If I do it in only 1 color, I come out with a fairly simple vector, I think. But Dave's and Stevo's methods are more interesting.

I put transparencies on the objects I'm playing with, and different colors sometimes outlines, to see what's behind something else. And use Lock Object so that one thing doesn't get messed up while I'm fooling with another. If Corel 8 has Layers (in Object Manager), I would use them to keep clutter out of the way.
