Don't know how many of you like Oprah, but her show today was just disturbing. (I promise I won't start posting Oprah posts every week, but this one was something else)

A woman saw a young girl and an old man in a convenience store and just felt something was wrong. She phoned it in but was told the man was this girls grandfather. To make a long story short, the woman just couldn't let it go, drove back 250 miles to check it out again and ended up saving a young girl and a 17 year old boy from a heinous couple that should not be allowed to draw another breath. Thank god these bastards were caught.

Another man that was caught had molested a six year old boy THREE TIMES A DAY, EVERYDAY for SIX years.

A women took the time to dress her small baby in pretty little clothes and lovingly put a matching headband around her bald little head. Then she tied her in a plastic garbage bag and threw her in the river. A man heard "mews" as the bag floated past him and fished it out. Sickening.

Anyway, the moral of the stories was to listen to your instincts. I want to encourage all of us that if we see something that just doesn't sit right, do something about it. I feel its a good lesson to be reminded of.

There is no punishment that is strong enough or long enough for those who mistreat children.

Here in Central Texas where I live we have the second largest number of child abuse cases than anywhere in the United States (per capita). Not something to be proud of at all.

My hat is off to those who have the courage and the stomach to work with those who have been abused - both children and spouses.

You know the old Jennie story of suddenly getting three wishes? Well, one of mine would be to see all those who prey upon children to be punished publically...and you probably don't want to hear how.

These are very sick people who should not be allowed to be outside of a jail or institution. In fact, neither is much too good for them. If there were any way of indetifying them as predators, they could be transported to a deserted island that is surrounded with shark infested waters.

I think we would be shocked to find out just how many predators are walking around out there undetected. How many children sit in silence. How many adults there are, unable to fully function in life because of childhood hurts that have scarred them.

I think making help readily available to children is key in stopping what is happening. Opening the lines of communication. Love and kindness can go a long way in making a child who has never known it see how things "can" be. And should be.

I hope you don't mind me throwing a verse in here...but it aptly describes my thoughts and feelings about the people who would abuse kids or influence them in ways that cause them to do things they shouldn't......through no fault of their own decision making:

Matthew 18:6
But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin (by this, I believe they mean to do something that God doesn't condone - not that they are guilty of making their own decision about the sin - but influenced by another when they aren't really intellectually strong enough to say "NO" - - my thoughts) , it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

I agree that these sick and discusting people need to be punished and should not be allowed to walk amongst the human race, EVER.

My point for posting was to urge us all to pay attention to our intuitions and react. I can't help but wonder what the neighbors thought when they saw these children, what their teachers thought, what the checkout gal at the grocery store thought. We are afraid to "get involved" or "stir the pot". Lets not stand for that anymore.

Well said Suelynn....you HAVE to be involved.....the next kid that gets rescued may be our very own....from someone who had the guts to intervene when things didn't "seem quite right."

Good post - - it's good to be vigilant in protecting our young ones.

...And many of those abused when kids grow up to be abusers themselves.

...I just heard on the radio that in IRELAND there are hundreds of CATHOLIC PRIESTS being busted for molesting children (from the '40s to the '70s). ...May they all go to hell.

Not only are children being abused left & right
but there are also many many elderly persons &
handicapped being wronged.
This age is ripe for learning this activity
only by turning on a TV.

I had the personal experience of working with not one but TWO child perv jail birds...

Stogner was worste one. And thankfully that sikc maggot was convicted and sentenced to death. His one mistake was one pubic hair inside her. Just one hair. Thats all it took. I had to escort him around the jail pass the trusties who begged us all to just turn our back just for a few sconds.

Just one more point. He was held in jail via parole violation for a prior sex crime conviction. Death to them all. All of them. No mercy. And the first one that says "they don't deserve the death penalty" should be strapped in right along side them..

I personally observed the grief these maggots brought to our community. It afected the school kids, my kids and our kids and yoru kids. It affected our schools, and our churches. Death to them all. Tomorrow will not be soon enough. Can you imagien not letting your child out to play in your own yard?

It's sad that the very first thing I did when I was looking to buy our new house was to check the CA state database which shows where there are registered sex offenders in your neighborhood. The sickest thing is that it's not IF they are in your neighborhood but WHERE.

There's a special place in hell for people to burn if they refuse to get help for their insanity.

I never watch these shows . . . and it's not 'sheltering' my live. . .

But if you were to think and dwell, on the fact that every second on this planet, in random geographic locales and times, several children are being very seriously abused, you will go completely out of your mind.

I'm also not sure shows like Oprah, Montel (and whoever else is exploiting the intense pain of peoples lives for 'shock-TV-sensationalism') should be airing this stuff at all, or at least not after 3pm because I do not think babies- I mean little young children, and kids up to 10,11 or 12 need to be hearing indepth about hennious crimes like these.

Thankfully, we have a God who will not tolerate this, and other craziness too much longer.

I'm actually in the middle of writing a peice about how to imagine a loving God who witnesses these things happening. If you are interested in recieving a copy of this when it's complete, or if you have questions, please feel free to e-mail me, as I do not want to get into 'religious' veiws out of respect for others who may not hold the same veiws.

Sheila, did you ever watch any of Oprah's shows on these types of segments? It's not done in any kind of exploitive way at all. In fact, she's been on a mission capturing molesters, and has succeeded several times in that now.

I think television used in this manner is actually a good thing. Why not use the media to HELP rather than just report. Shows like Oprah, America's Most Wanted and even Dateline are doing just that.

If you really think about it, it's like a community or global effort towards a common goal.
Like Suelynn says, people need to be more aware and involved. I'm glad for folks like Oprah that bring things like this to the forefront in a way that gets people to "feel" it enough to wake them up to some action.

Janette,

yes, I've seen several of her shows, and other somewhat similar to hers, which I enjoyed, and Emily and I often have pretty good conversations when I pick her up each day about something she's seen on Oprah, since her Gran'ma is a faithful veiwer.

I do agree with you to an extent.
If she designs the show in such a way as to be informative and educational that can be a useful tool for many things.

But at times she and others just seem to be shooting for ratings, although, giving credit where credit is due, Oprah engages in that sort of sensationalism much less than other similar shows.

And occasionally even Oprah pushes the envelope, and often is doing nothing more than displaying people as if they are circus-freak, side-shows, while trying to portray the display as 'empathy', sympathy, concern, and 'help' while in reality, millions of deeply unconcerned people are simply glued to their seats goin' 'OH MY GOD . . . can you believe THIS.'

In fairness, people sign up and agree to come on these shows on their OWN decision and allow themselves to be displayed in this fashion, and often end up feeling victimized. But at whose hand? Their own. They certainly knew how it was gonna go down.

And I still don't believe real young kids impressionable little minds should be veiwing and listening to programs that go indepth into these subjects.
