Yesterday I received a "Flat Stanley" in the mail. Has anyone else participated in the project? I think I'm gonna have some fun with this! I can take him jetski racing, kayaking, maybe put him to work making graphics. I might even take him down to where all the Spring Breakers party and get his picture taken with a couple drunken college babes.
For anyone that doesn't know what Flat Stanley is, it's a book about a boy who was flattened when a bulletin board fell on him at school and because he's flat, he gets sent through the mail and has all sorts of adventures. The project was started by a teacher who had his students make their own Flat Stanleys which were mailed out and the recipients took photos and kept a journal, all of which are mailed back by a specific date.

Mike, where did you get your Flat Stanley from? Is one able to request to have one sent to them? It's a really neat idea I'm going to tell my son's teacher about.

I got one several years ago. I had more fun with Flat Stan than I've had in years. It was an excuse to do a bunch of stuff. Flat Stan went cliff diving, canoeing, went to football practice at Auburn, made a 200 mph pass in a funny car, met the Governor and sat in on a session of the state senate, and went for a ride in a National Guard helicopter.
Resist the temptation to make Flat Stan a Flat Jenny McCarthy to play with.
Flat Stan sent a giant box full of souvenirs and pictures back to the class. It was a lot of fun.

I just finished hosting a "Flat Michaella". My great neice is in kindergarden and their teacher had them make one to look like them. They had to be sent to a relative or friend out of state.
Well in South Dakota in the winter time without snow is not open to alot of outdoor activities. We did meet the mayor and ride in a sheriffs car. Attended a Grand Champion party for a persian cat - (that is the picture my neice loved the best). Visited the world's largest pheasant. And even rode a motorcycle.
Anyway - what fun - and the people we visited were full of smiles having their pictures taken with her.
My great neice thanked me and spoke like it was really her that had all these adventures.
So I learned no matter how quiet your world may be in the eyes of a little kid it's still very exciting.

Donna, a friend of mine that's a teacher in Missouri sent it out to me. Unless you know of a teacher or have family that's participating I don't know if you can file a request.

Why don't we start our own "Flat Letterhead" project and send him around? Any takers? We'd be happy to take him/her to a letterhead meet with us, or to a concert or have him on the drums at the next jam.... I could teach her to quilt!

because it will take 11yrs to get around the country like the letterhead banners while people go thru various levels and weeks of tortous mental and artistic agnst on how best to sign their names with flat stanley, and by the time it gets redelivered back to the children who participate they will be well out of childhood, leaving those here that still are forever arguing about whether residents, merchants or non merchants are most responsible for bearing the burden of the flat stanley debacle

My neice was involved in a flat Stanley project a few years ago. We took it to the Prime Ministers house and had a photo taken with his security staff... and another with Alexi Yashin( hockey Player)... She was thrilled. Dale
