Yup ... here I am again with this dreaded topic that never seems to stay on the board too long! [Smile]

How's it going folks?
Staying healthy, happy .... and fit?
Are you keeping it movin' and shaken?
Are ya eating right?
Are you reformed smokers doing okay?
Are you managing stress okay?

All is great here. I've lost the holiday weight, and am back on the right path again.

I'm still doing the usual classes, and putting in miles on the treadmill and at the park.
One more month, and the time changes. I'll be getting back together with my bike group for weekly rides once the days get longer. [Smile]

I've cut down considerably on the sweets ... a much needed change after the holiday splurges.

Made a few changes in my diet recently. I've read up on some of the benefits of some different foods, and have been trying them out. I started grinding flaxseed and adding it to my cereal in the morning, for more of a nutritional boost. I bought a grinder specifically for such things, and do it fresh each time. (Flax oxidizes quickly, and goes rancid fast) I bought some Pomegranite juice (100% unsweetened) and gave that a try. I broke out my juicer, and will begin doing some juices again.

I'm finding that the "good stuff" sure does make you feel better than the junk! Healthier food is genuine fuel for the body.

One more thing I'll share with the gals is the new brand of workout sneakers I bought myself recently. They are called "Ryka" and the company who makes them helps support breast cancer research. The shoe itself is designed specifically for a gal's foot. I love mine, and highly recommend them. Been wearing them for my aerobic workouts.

I've been getting in another one of my "organizational frenzies" lately too. Which I think always benefits in striving towards becoming less stressed in my workspace. I've bought binders now for my most used files, and will start storing my info in those for more easily accessable, and more organized storage of info. (less digging in the file cabinets) With binders also, I'll be able to keep multiple related files together in one place. Hey ... it's worth a shot right?

Anyway, just wondering what everyone is up to?
Any pearls of wisdom to share, or progress reports on your ends? Any goals to make?

Here's to a healthy and productive March!

Dang ya beat me to it! I was gonna post this one... notice how you and me are the only ones that start this thread each month? [Smile]

I've been eating pretty healthy... healthily?.. whatever... lately, but with some random acts of mindlessness mixed in where I just scarf down stuff that I shouldn't yet feel justified in doing so because I work out so much. Like last night I ate a half pound hershey bar and today at lunch I had a pastrami sandwich and fries at a little bistro in town.

Until business picks up I'm working out at the gym twice a day, 60-90 minutes in the morning AND 60-90 minutes in the evening. I'll probably keep it up even after biz picks up but I'll have to keep strict 9-5 hours so work doesn't interfere with my gym time. [Smile] I do cardio and weights both visits each day with every other visit being high intensity/endurance cardio training.

I am exercising like a mad man. My weight is holding steady 255-258 but I'm leaning down so fast there's a visible difference day to day. I still have this saggy pouch of a gut though, it really cheeses me off, the fat is dropping everywhere but where I want it to the most.

I'm down to skating 1 day on the weekends and because of the training in the gym with the weights and endurance cardio, I FFFFFLY! I still lose my breath but I'm going a whole lot faster when I do it and the hills on the trail don't even slow me down anymore.

I just started up Curves again today. My instructions are to NOT twist and that should keep me out of trouble.. for awhile anyway.

I was debating on joining the leisure center so cody could swim while I work out but found out he's still too young to be left unattended and for a lifeguard to watch and their daycare hours are NOT convenient, so scratch that. I wanted to hire a personal trainer to attempt some extra work on my back issues. Guess Curves will have to do for now.

I'm cutting back on the excess carbs starting today too. (oh how I love fresh warm buns with butter!) I did excellent today and will attempt to chart my progress to keep me honest.

I'm avoiding baking so I don't eat it. We are out of cookies and I'm dieing here! But some stress hit my life lately and I'd be banging them back by the dozen if I had them so no way, the flour and sugar will have to stay put in the bags for now.

My renos have come to a standstill because my carpenter got really sick so here I live with plywood floors and mudded up walls. Ick. So that constitutes to some of my stress, but only minor. So to stay mentally healthy, I've been going to my mom's to help her renovate her garage just to get out of here. LOL

My office is a fiasco. Let's not even talk about organization! I'm out of file cabinet space and have been adding those file boxes. Whadda mess. I need to address this so I don't avoid my office so much. [Smile]

Still striving here to find a deep hidden passion in something to rejeuvinate myself. Decals and installs are boring me to high heaven lately. I'm just ready for a new something. I thought a digital printer may be the answer but it's still decals. [Frown] LOL

See how this post is already travelling down the bottom edge of the board! hahahaa... what's that saying about us as a bunch eh? [Smile]

Mike, I hesitated posting, and wondered if I should wait for you. [Smile] You outta start May's ... we'll alternate months. We are the crazy addicted ones I guess. [Roll Eyes]

It sounds like you are doing great Mike. Tummy pooch is the hardest to lose on most people. You do crunches I imagine eh? They really are good for that. I love crunches, ... but hate push ups! I've always had a flat tummy, but my tough spots are the thighs. I swear one piece of chocolate will land there first ... and then won't budge! [Mad]

Donna, glad to see you making some headway back to some exercise. Take it easy, and you'll do great! I commend you on the will power to not bake cookies. I love cookies, (and ice cream) so I could never leave them alone if they were in the house!

I have an update to my earlier post. I switched gyms again. I joined a Gold's gym that's closer to my house tonight. I still have time left on my other gym, that I'll finish out. I'll be a gym two timer for a couple months. I'm happy that this new gym met my requests financially, and I'm now able to take a 2 minute trip to the gym, instead of an 18 minute drive each way.
Much more convenient for me now. [Smile]

Bring it on folks! What are you doing to improve the health quality of your lives?

Let's encourage each other here!

Yeah I do crunches.. I also do a little twist on the crunch to work the obliques.

I do the Nautilus abdominal machine, 4 sets of 12 reps at 200lbs.

I do hanging leg raises and lying leg raises to burn the lower abs.

I also do another lower ab exercise where I use a mid-height pulley, get on my knees, hold the handle at my head and bending at the pelvis but keeping my back straight pull the handle down until my elbows hit the floor.

I wish working the abs could burn the fat there, this would be easy if it could. [Smile]

I've been on the prowl for healthy yet tasty recipes that also photograph well. [Smile] Takin' photos of food when you're watching it can get dodgy at times. [Smile]

Well it's been such a mild winter, that since January 1st, I already have more than half the miles on my bicycle that I had all last Summer.

It's really addictive.

I can't wait for Spring and Summer, to really rack-up the miles!

Besides that, those high peaks in the Adirondacks are calling my name.

Keep on pedaling!

Peace out,
Bob

Excellent timing for this post. I joined WW last year at about this time. I lost 15 pounds and felt great with the change in my diet. I reached my goal weight and maintained it for months. Then christmas hit, and then a carribean holiday (all you can eat and then some) and a bit of a winter funk when I got home. I've been scarfing down whatever I feel like, and feel like crap. Lethargic, bored, fat, lazy, you name it. I'm tired all day, but can't sleep at night.

I know it is from the downhill slide of my diet. I'm putting a chart back on the fridge and am going to start counting points again to help me get back on track. I'm alot less likely to cheat if I have to right it down!

Thanks for the boost. Hopefully next month I'll be posting about how great I feel!

I'm coming up on three months without a cigarette. There's some wonderful smells this time of year in this part of the country. Any of you that have never experienced the aroma of citrus blossoms in the spring have missed out bigtime! Anyway, it's just that much better without the cigs.

I had what I call "My near death experience" in August. I was supposed to be taking 3 blood pressure medicines every day. My wife lost her health benefits so I quit taking my meds. Full price is expensive. I went to my wife's office so she could clean my teeth (she's a hygienist). I was feeling lousy. She checked my BP before she would work on me. It was very high so she sent me to fill my prescriptions. The pharmacy called the doctor because the prescriptions were old. I had to go to the Dr.'s office. They had me make an appointment for blood work and gave me a month's prescription. They sent in a nurse to take my BP. She took it several times then left. Another nurse came in and took it several times. I asked what it was, she said 212 over 180. I asked if it was a record. She said it is for me. They came in and gave me a pill to get it down immediately. It went down. I know if it hadn't they were going to call an ambulance.

Two days later we were enrolled at Jenny Craig. I weighed in last night and have lost 50.2 pounds. I take one pill every few days when I remember to. My BP is fine. I feel much better too.

I enjoy the comments and stories that come with the Health threads. I do think it's helpful to put some goals out there ... writing them down, or saying them "out loud" on here can be a good motivator.

Stories like Dennis' is especially inspiring and his wake up call may actually be one for others that read it. Good for you Dennis!

It may seem that I'm abit fanatical about this topic, but I strongly feel that striving for a healthy lifestyle should naturally be a priority in everyone's life. It's been in the forefront for most of mine, but it's importance has become more evident as I get older.

I realize how much the choices we make in many aspects of live have their repercussions. Choices not only with food and fitness, but how we work, how we interact, the company we keep, how we relax, ... etc.

Basically, how we manage ourselves now, has BIG TIME effects on what we wind up with later.

Choosing to be more proactive in your own wellbeing just makes good sense.

Well, I had a little stint happen that threw me off track and I wasn't pleased. I went into Curves and started working out and the instructor bolted to me and shook her pointy little finger at me right to my nose and exclaimed "NO NO NO NO NO! NO OUTDOOR SHOES IN HERE!" And she continued to give me the 9 yards on the whole deal like I was a 5 yr old child. As I didn't have indoor shoes and had never been told to do that before, I packed up and left and was all to happy to do so after that! If I had went through the motions of the workout after that fiasco, I probably would have broken every machine from pure adreneline. LOL

It's all on the delivery folks! Oy...

Sheesh ... give some people a little authority, and they really run away with it! I think I'd have to complain to somebody about that one! Just the fact that you left right after that should have made a statement to them.

i had to go to an appojtment with a NUTRITIONIST!!! imagine that!!!
i have a new doctor at VA, and he didnt like the looks of my HDL so he sent me to nutritionist.
the way they do cholestrol now is youre LDL & YOURE HDL numbers added together to get total cholestrol. mine was 243. of that my LDL was 182(this is the number most talkabout)so it wasnt that outa wack. the HDL was 29.1. add these 2 together and get TOTAL. his main concern was with the HDL being lower the allowable limit which is 35-70. so i got to get the 29.1 up into the 35-70 range or he said they would start me on cholestrol drugs...to which i said oh no you aint!!!! told him i would handle it with diet......which aint no big deal to do.
FLAX SEED OIL, BAKED SALMON, NO FRIED SEAFOODS, LOTS OF OATMEAL, CUT OUT THE EGG YOLKS, and in 30-45 days ill be good to go!!!! will post results in 30-45 days...when they retest my blood.

Way to go OP, don't let the drug dealers pump you full of their wares.

Just proves my point that doctors don't know how to cure anything, they only treat the symptoms with drugs or a knife.

Then again, what do you expect when doctors get commissions on every brand name prescription they sell.

"Health Care" is big business. It's a racket.
Drug companies are just too involved, for the health of their own bank accounts!

The more in tune you are with yourself in this regard, the better. The more you educate yourself about alternatives out there, and about nutrition, the better.

Personally, I will do whatever possible to keep from being at the mercy of the medical professional. [Smile]

OP, grinding flaxseed up into a cereal, shake or smoothy, ... or even sprinkling it on salads is another good way to get flax in the diet. Gotta keep the stuff refridgerated tho, and grinding with each use or for only a few uses in advance would be best. That stuff is good for a gamut of things, ... another nutritious "superfood".
Good luck, and keep us posted OP!

all in all it was good sitdown with the nutritionist. i told him ive been a vegitarian since the late 80's and that at that point of my LDL being 305 is when i became one and with in 90 days i dropped the LDL from 305 to 160....JUST WITH DIET!!!!! so with my LDL at 182 it didnt seem to be that high.
we have a vegitarian group and we have a veggie potluck dinner once a month either here at our home or one of the other members. we sometimes have a short movie on food or health related informational stuff. as i ended the appointment i gave the guy a flyer for the next veggie potluck and he said he would love to attend and see how people eat healthy food & prepare it.
iam also really against the use of drugs for things that you can change with DIET. and iam living proof it can be done as is most of the people in the veggie group(bout 40 now). some have had cancer, and other dibitating illnesses that after doing all the pills and listening to MEDICAL PRESCIPTION PUSHERS they decided to check out NATURALPATHIC ways to heal the body.
ive said this before "you are what you eat" right? well not totally true because you body will eliminate the stuff IT DONT USE...so in reality you are not what you eat...but are what youre body dont eliminate.....hence the old protien myth. you only need 60 grams a day....what aint used is waste....and the waste is flushed. i learned long time ago back in my drug rehab days ...the body can produce any drug that you can buy!!! might be a little slower, but it can recover itself....all you have to is stop POISONING IT!!!!

I used to say bahhumbug about healthful living. The nearer I am to 40 the more I see it as a neccessity.

I agree completely about the medication racket. It seems once you start taking something, it's hard to ever get away from it.

I recently started a weight loss program. It seems five pounds a year over a few years, and next thing you know a fat butt has creeped up behind you! Yes, I make the rockin world go round. If you know Queen you'll get that.

SO I have a gaol of twenty 22 pounds to get me back to my best weight of 118. I've done 12 so far, so ten to go. I may have to lose a few more, though. At 118 I played a lot of volleyball so I was a lot more muscular then.

My plan has me eating everything good. No processed foods, very little starch and what starches I do eat have to be good grains. Three each of veggies and fruits - no canned stuff! all fresh. My husband is loving the two meats a day - I used to live on beans, rice and pastas.
And 64, that's SIXTYFOUR, ounces of water EVERYday. But it is the supposed key to success so I dare not NOT drink it.

So my butt slowly shrinks, two pounds a week. At least five weeks to go. I feel better than I have in years. My biggest complaint with this diet is that I have to eat all the time. I am a reformed two-meal-a-dayer with occasional snack binges. Now it's three meals and three snacks.

One of my favorite meals is to rub down a chicken breast with olive oil and italian seasonings, slap it on the Foreman grill. When it's almost done slice up a Roma tomatoe and throw it on top. Cook a few more minutes then top it with a slice of Provolone - but don't put the lid down on it - hold it over it for few seconds and let it melt the cheese. Sounds like supper tonight!

I can hardly wait for Spring - cooking with fresh herbs absolutely spoils you. I can still get tyme and oregano, a few chives during the warm spells from my garden - but I dream of fresh basil and lemon mint.

Now, its time to eat AGAIN. I'm going for an orange.

OP.. Who was your math teacher? 182 and 29.1 does not add up to 243. [Rolling On The Floor]

If you want your eyes opened, get Kevin Trudeau's book on Natural Cures. His newsletters are very interesting. The drug companies control the media and the FDA and the government isn't doing anything about it. All cancer research in this country is geared toward finding drugs to kill cancer. Other countries are reasearching and finding natural ways to beat cancer and many other deseases.

You won't hear of these cures in the news media because the drug companies won't let them report it. Think about the power drug companies have over the media simply because of the amount of advertising they do.

The food companies are just as bad. They load up our food with all kinds of junk, chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, all for increased profits. Diet foods are made to make you fat so you buy more and more. A recent study showed kids with 32 chemicals in their bodies and guess where they came from.... APPLES!!!

Eat as much organic food as you can. Drink filtered water, preferably by reverse osmosis. I believe Mike Pipes knows about that.

And how'd you like that 60 minutes report that hospitals charge people with no insurance 4 to 5 times what they charge insurance companies for services. One example given, apendectomy...$5,000 to insurance company.... $20,000 to someone without insurance.

If you are really interested in health care, get Kevin Trudeau's book.

Good post Janette....I admire people like you with the kind of motivation it takes to stay healthy and active....Whew! I was tired just reading about your regimen.

I'll be starting something soon myself. I tend to gravitate more to weight lifting, as I like the immediate feel of the workout on the muscles - feels like you really did something.

But I should hop on the recumbant bike and peddle more too.....that thing really gets my heart rate up....at least the digital readout says it gets up to about 132 bpm...and that's during a 10 minute marathon.

Not to be negative, but I just heard a report recently on the national news where they said that researchers have discovered that changing diet does not help you avoid a heart attack.

They said that their research showed that eating habits during youth determine your propensity to have a heart attack.

If that's the case - - I'm in deep doo-doo. Sugar laden anything was my preference as an entre as a youth - oh sure, I ate the "good" stuff my mom made....but really relished the between meals sweets.

In my teens it was the fastfood scene. McDonalds and Burger King were the big rage.

I'm hoping the report I heard was bull....I'm eating a lot better now....although I still eat too many frozen pizza's and other junk.

I'm not really fat - been lucky all my life in that regard - but I do have high cholesterol...and am supposed to be on Statin's - - but I just couldn't make myself do it. Too worried about side effects....hate the thought of taking any drugs.

The Doc asked me last visit when he was trying to convince me that Lipotor was for me: "Tell me of one person you personally know of, or a friend of a friend that you have EVER heard of having liver failure or dying or anything by taking a cholesterol reducing drug?!"

I honestly couldn't tell him of hearing of any problem from anyone I know....but still.....

Todd, 132? Come on man, you can do better than that! [Smile]

That's about the lowest intensity I go on my exercise. 124 is supposedly where I'll burn the most fat, but it's actually hard for me to keep my heart rate that low - I mean, I hit 124 within 30 seconds of starting exercise and that's from a resting pulse of 55bpm. Usually I'm in the 150-160 range and when I'm actually training for cardio or inline skating it's buzzin right around 180. If I hop on a jetski and run some buoys at race practice or actually get into the race, it's peggin' 190.

This morning I spent an hour and 25 minutes just doing cardio, another hour went into weight training - I was up early again today...4:30.. just woke up and couldnt sleep anymore probably because I fell asleep at 9pm last night. [Smile]

I'll be back in the gym again tonight.

Jeez Mike! 190? That's over 3 beats per second! We're talking "Playing cards in bycicle spokes" type action.

Ya gotta remember, I'm just been sporadically dabbling around with this excercise thing....I have to work my way up gradually. After 10-15 minutes on the excercise bike once every 2 weeks, I get pretty winded! LOL [Wink]

I gotta hand it to you, you've got some extreme willpower and motivation! I applaud you for that!

Todd, yep 190 is adrenaline fueled and riding jetskis in race/practice mode just beats the crap outta ya.

Oh I'm way past willpower and motivation, I'm well into the addiction phase now. [Smile] I just got back from the gym.. again... one hour of cardio.. that makes 3.5 hours total spent in the gym today. See what I mean? Dedicated people put that much time into it in a week - I'm doing that every day. Overdoing it?.. oooohhh noooo, nah not me! [Smile]

sleep, workout, eat, work, workout, eat, sleep - my day in a nutshell. [Smile] Ahhh the single life.... that may change though. I got my hair cut by one of the gals from the gym, yeah I dug her but I really did need a haircut too [Smile] .. now I think she's into me, unless I'm misreading the hair flip, the double pat on the arm she gave me when we passed each other to and from the water fountain, and the fact now she's ignoring me. ARRGGH!! women are *Evil*!! [Smile]

If you don't know what that is, then rent "legally blonde."

By the way, I'm eating a hunk of cheese while reading this.....how can a man give up cheese? Impossible, I say....impossible.

I have just passed 5 months without a cigarette. No one time cheats or oopsies, either.

My cholesteral count is now down to 151. My HDL is a little low so I will be taking omega 3 capsules.

I took a 7-1/2 minute stress type test. No permanent damage to my heart, the blood flow is excellent, and the gumminess at the bottom of the heart itself is easing up.

I have worked hard to improve my lifestyle and it isn't easy. At least it isn't for me. I also don't don't particularly enjoy it at times either but it sure beats dying.

I figure one wake up call per customer and I already got mine.

Todd I can't believe yer gonna make me go rent that movie.. what if someone sees me renting it??? [Smile] Come on spill the beans.. does it have something to do with snapping a g-string? [Smile] Hey I haven't given up cheese, I don't even do the low fat or fat free stuff because it's always loaded with sodium - I can burn off the fat easy as pie mmmmmmm piiiiie... err.. anyway I keep an eye on the salt though.

OP I'll probably get mercury poisoning from all the fish I eat [Smile]

Bruce, keep it up, yer going the right direction. After a while living healthier becomes engrained into daily life and you won't even have to think about it.

All in all,not too bad.

I've lost about 10-15 pounds since arriving in GA. I'd usually hibernate during the winter months and get a little rounder, but with the warmer climate, I'm more active and the winter blimping isn't there.

I also took the time for an eye exam and made a major change...bifocals. I ordered the seamless kind with a teflon coating (so the overspray can be cleaned up...lol) and they are due in this week. Although a bit more expensive, I decided to get glasses that were a lot more practical for the kind of work that I do. They should ease my eye strain at night and make time at the computer a little less damaging.
I'm also making it a point to take a break occasionally when I'm at the screen for long periods of time.

It'll nice to actually see what I'm working on again...

Awwww yeaaaah!!

I think I'm on a weight loss streak again!

I'm down about 3.5lbs from where I was last week.. although based on past experience with wild water weight swings since lifting weights it may not last long... but my weight has been fairly stable the past few weeks so this could be a good sign.

And to think all it's taking is 2.5 hours of cardio every day.... [Smile]

Weight loss newbies don't get me wrong, you won't have to work this hard to make it happen. I'm just at a WAY higher level of fitness these days (much lighter, much stronger, body trained for action) and to make any changes it takes a WHOLE lot more work. When I first started I lost 3lbs per week just walking 2 miles in 40 minutes every day. Man those were the easy days!

Just to fill you in on what's going on with me.

I was admitted to the Medical Center in Macon on 5 Dec for pain control.

I walked in, but didn't walk out.

I stayed there for 16 days, and after 5 radiation treatments and many CT Scans, XRays, Bone Scans and whatever else they found to do, I ended up with a spinal cord compression which turned my legs to feeling like Jello. My right hand doesn't work like it should...it is partially paralysed.

From the Medical Center, I moved to Health South for Physical Therapy and was there for 24 days and came home on the 13th of Jan.

I had PT people coming to the house three times a week to try to get my muscles to work like they are supposed to.

Now I am going to Outpatient therapy in Macon two times a week. They have really helped in strengthening my muscles so I may hopefully be able to walk again sometime down the road.

We have a hospital bed in one of our bedrooms.....I'm either there or in my wheelchair.

Its Great to be home again and with a lot of work and time everything will work right again.

My Wife, Linda is doing fine, but she sure has her work cut out for her having to take care of me.....its a 24 hour job.

I bought the Weight Watchers home kit about 4 months ago. Just can't get into staving myself with salads everday and I don't have time to cook gourmet meals. Plus, healthy food is expensive in my opinion.

I bought a pair of roller blades today and I've been running up and down the street while my daughter is learning to ride her bike!

Maybe one day I'll get into correctly in regard to the diet.

Eating better isn't about starving yourself. It is all about choices.

I try to limit myself to one carb choice a day. I can have a doughnut or I can have bread. Which is better? Maybe the baked potato is worth my choice.

Eating turkey, chicken, or fish is better for me than beef. I can still eat beef but I can eat bigger portions of fish or poultry. Green vegtables are free point wise. Eat a bunch. Very filling and they taste great.

Weight Watchers works but you really need to do the whole program. That means going to the meetings and interacting with people who are going through the exact same thing you are. There is satrength in the group setting. It doesn't make you weak or less of a person to need help. I never would have done what I have if I didn't have help.

Food is only a portion of weight loss. You have to excercise, too. Many people fail because they rely too much on one thing or another. You didn't gain all your weight overnight. You shouldn't expect it to come off overnight either.

Weight control and such is about lifestyle changes and different eating habits. You have to make these changes or it won't work.

If any of you have questions about Weight Watchers, ask Dana. She has lost 50 pounds on this program and has maintained her weight through it, too.

Hey Amy,

It only appears that healthy food is more expensive, but if you eat properly sized portions you will eat a lot less and still feel satisfied, thus it costs less.

Most of the meals that I've posted pictures of were prepared and ready to eat in 10 minutes. The only exceptions are Friday or Saturday when I like to take a little more time and prepare something special like that enchilada casserole thing.

But like today, I had a barbecue chicken quesadilla and steamed veggies for lunch. 5 minutes on the grill then 5 minute broil in the oven to toast the tortilla and it was ready to eat. 4oz of chicken and two cups worth of veggies hardly costs anything.

It's just one of those things, when it actually becomes important to you, you will make the time to do it. I walked around at 300+lbs for a long time thinking everything was A-OK then one day something just clicked and suddenly it wasn't OK.

I admire anyone who finds even a baby step to try. If you don't have incentive, create it! Whatever step of the game you are at, any positive step is going in the right direction.
All you that are quitting smoking or trying have my utmost praise: I selfishly want to have you around so I can meet with yous and paint or just shoot the breeze; see you enjoying your families and friends.

My thinking is a holistic approach as I do believe it is mind, body, spirit and conscious decisions that give you choices and outcomes. Sure, we have genetics to contend with, and I didn't eat many veggies and raw fruits as a teenager, and that was really stupid, but, I, personally have brought myself out of many tragic situations with diet, exercise and having fun, a lot of discipline and tremendous help from chiropractic medicine, and massage therapy. I know the body can heal, even if you don't think so, just try. I'm very, very unmotivated so I have to visualize as an artist what I will reap if I do this. Sometimes it is just plain out of fear of having a stroke or getting cancer or asthma, whatever. I use all my knowledge together and just jump in. It's great to have encouragement and reminders and I give Nettie a round of applause for sticking to this health update.

Treat yourself to a walk up the street with a bottle of water or juice. Get some really good shoes when you are able or sooner. Check out that flaxseed and raw veggie juicing and hang around othes that have "GOOD" habits.

My youngest son and I are working together to change our health (his maybe since he's panicking with a virus and missing school, plus wants to play football next year). We have oranges and organic spring mix we can grab at without any hassle and the grilled or baked skinless chicken or salmon is mostly within our reach. I can mix soy milk into his smoothies but he's agreed to drink juicy juice opposed to soda, which I do not buy. We have blue corn chips and I cheated and bought tostida cheese dip, but oh well, he ate a half a plate of heated (frozen) green beans, as they are easy to heat up with the chicken.
We love the George Foreman grill and do the chicken breast strips a lot and throw olive oil and fresh dried refrigerated herbs on them. They sell the bottles in some of the better produce sections. No cutting or drying and they're about 3 bucks a bottle but go a long way.
Our treadmill is in the living room along with our balance ball and our Total Gym supreme workout machine. It is awesome! We love it and it doesn't put pressure on our joints like other machines and equipment at the workout gym which he frequents also.

Yes, our living room has a piano, couch and chairs and some awesome artwork from fellow letterheads, so we're not too bazaar;

but this way, it's impossible for visitors to avoid taking a couple slides on the equipment! And it doesn't hide in our closet or basement forgotten. Oh, I don't have a basement anymore, so that settles that. My wine- colored mountain bike is in the garage waiting for some luvin and peddling so maybe Sat. when it quits raining, I'll take it down the street a bit. We have about four bike trails, or I just ride around our pretty neighborhoods. The alfalfa sprouts are in the jars and the juicer's on the counter, if you can't find organic then wash your produce in apple cider vinegar as it takes out most of the poisons.
my 17 yr old son is also taking horticulture in school. His next project is landscaping a backyard on a budget, and I'm making sure he knows how beautiful a free food garden can be! We may hide the compost pile with a beautiful water garden and rocks, but at least the kids will know about growing their own food too.
But, all in all, I do thank you for sharing your stories too, as I need all the motivation I can get since I let family stress get the best of me. Whew, I'm ready for some fresh air!

I have not had a cigarette since January 5th, & nope, I have not cheated either. I did gain around 10 pds. tho, but lost over 8 1/2 of it so far.

My sister in law did Weight Watchers & gave me her slider thing for points. I cannot afford to join the group, but i am doing well counting points & walking. I walk(fast) with our choc. lab, Lucy, almost every morning for 1 hour.

My problem is my feet, they kill me. I am going to check out those shoes you were talking about, Donna. I feel pain shooting up in my heels after I walk, & sometimes my ankles & knees hurt so bad. But I walk anyway.

I feel SOOOOO much better, too, even tho I have not lost tons of weight yet. I will!

Down 20 lbs since mid-January...so far so good. Just counting calories...much like the Weight Watcher method. Nice to get into pants I haven't touched in four years. Gotta get an exercise habit formed...
