I usually use PL polyurethane Construction Adhesive or Gorilla glue for small panel but I never have done this big. two 5'x 8' x 1/2" that I want to glue together and see how other have done for better result for outdoor. Back to back PL Poly werks fer me but I also use underlayment screws and screw them together for a mechanical bond. ( and then fill the screw heads..
The saw dust welding rod is hard to get to light right. Maybe I need a larger welder.

I'd be real worried about expansion/contraction/warping. Or am I wrong? I've never attempted something like that, but it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

Tim I'm kind of afraid to do so too. thinking it will split thru the time , since is kind of big.
Rene I wish Can find somenthing in that thickness and 5' height. I did check Cedar panels ,HDU, but they only comes in 4' height. if anybody knows any material for outdoor that comes 5'and height and 1" thick i will appreciate any INPUT. THANKS

Sal, Is there a specific reason that you need to "sandwich" the two pieces together? Would it be possible to create 2 single sided panels then using treated wood stringers attach the 2 single faced panels to that?

Sal, hi !, i have had luck with the mentioned west system glue. Local boat yards use it quite often, plus i would use a router with a small biscuit here & there for strength. Helps for installation and down the road with movement. See you made it thru the winter ! Mahalo ! Z

Thin yellow wood glue with a couple of drops of water, then roll it out on the whole surface of the mdo, and then clamp it like mad. Caulk the seam and you shouldn't have any problems.

It's not a problem gluing the MDO back-to-back with wood glue, Gorilla, or Poly glue. But are you trying to make a double-sided 5 X 8, or a single- sided one?
I've seen somewhere over the years that someone offered a 5 X 8 MDO, but I'm sure it would have been a special order item, and not worth the trouble.
For a double sided 5X8, I'd just get two sheets of double-faced MDO, cut them off at 5', and butt them together. Same for single-sided sign; only use some type of framework behind them to keep them for warping.
