It seems this year, they're extra special. It's really exhilarating to me to see the speed and grace of these athletes; the determination and guts they display. Did you ever think ice and white snow could be so versatile?
And, even if you don't like sports, don't you think the music and charm of Italy are enough to draw you in?! I think they did a great job on the coverage too. To me, it's been a wonderful time except to get away from all the troubles of the world, and just dive into a great time.
(have you ever tried a bobsled?)

...The half pipe snow boarding rips! Just a few years ago it was an "underground" sport. Now it's mainstream.

...I wonder why ice dancing is still there though. Since it's NOT a sport.

I'm not actively paying attention to it although I did see the ice skating competition a couple nights ago where that Chinese girl bombed the quadruple lift/toss/spin thing, landing on her knees.. then getting back up to finish the show and taking the silver. THAT is downright amazing.

There's something really fishy about the whole Michelle "Nancy" Kwan thing though, everybody is being way too gracious about it and ice skaters are just some of the meanest competitive types out there.

Now, how could anyone say ice skaters are some of the meanest types out there?

When people are trying to remember my last name, I say: “Harding... like Tonya, but no relation I’ll admit to.”

You see, I wiped out my own knee, rather than someone else’s.

David,

The proof is in the pudding. If ice skaters (of all kinds) weren't the meanest competitors on the face of the planet, how come the Rapper Thugs won't even get out on the ice? Hmmm?? [Smile]

Respect the ice skaters. No other sport allows its competitors to strap knives to their feet! [Smile]

I am loving the Olympics this year, especially the speed skating, curling and of course ALL of the events on the Bobsled course.... sooooo coool!!!

Sorry Karyn, I hope Bode is the only one who DOESN'T get a medal!!! He had no business to attack Lance the way he did, for no reason. I also think that Nike should drop him from sponsorship!!!! (BTW, I have e-mailed Nike about it already)

A niece of one of the kid's teachers at school is competing in the skeleton sledding race, so we're glued to the tv at times, or just have it in the background at times- only it's all on really late at night here (starts 9.30pm), so we don't see much before hitting the sack.

Then the Commonwealth Games begin soon in Melbourne...

Great Ian!
Have you thought about taping it?
My son happened to be off work today and caught a morning show where they went into the underground ice houses where the folks keep their perishables cold. As many as 300 businesses had an opening to enter in the long tunnel of underground chill.
Good luck and I'll try to look for your teacher friend. I just can't keep up as they are round the clock here too. I don't stay glued in front of the tv, but, I've seen much more than other years. I thought that chinese skating couple that won the silver last week were phenomenal as she performed in perfection even after cracking her knee on the ice. It's all very impressive to me this year, and I don't know if it's that I'm paying more attention this year as I have a little more time at home.

Been a big dissapointment so far. They just don't look good this time. No chemistry, and they all look like they're trying to do it themselves.
The women are looking to take the gold though!!

Hi, I'm Pat Whatley and I've got a Curling addiction.

I don't know what in the heck it is about that "sport" but when it's on I end up watching it for hours. It just looks so damn easy, almost like something you'd do while you were drunk, like horseshoes. And it's one of the few olympic events that looks like out of shape guys can actually do. I'm just not sure why they feel the need to wear tights, though.

Deb, when I was a kid, I could program the VCR and tape anything. Now that I have kids, I haven't a clue how to record a movie- I leave it to them to set it up!

(there's some deep moral lurking in that comment, I just don't have the brainspace to distill it at the moment. ON the other hand, I can outperform them on the computer, so being a bit backward in the VCR stakes is permissable... [Wink] )
