How is everyone doing?
Feeling good?

I've been good. I'm discovering that even gaining a few pounds can be challenging to lose. It's more because when you get in the habit of eating the wrong things .... like sugar especially, ... you can get on a wave with it. It's a wave that can be hard to get off from.

The good news is, that it's true also when you get on a wave with healthy foods too. I've been making the switch from the holiday food wave, back to my usual eating habits. [Smile]

Stepped it up a notch with my exercise the past month, to get my metabolism cranking again too.

I just feel like the planets are aligned right in my world when I'm doing things that are good for me. It's amazing how the wrong foods can bog you down. I think you notice it more when you start weighing yourself down with junk after being clean of it. It's not just a physical weighing down, but mental and emotional as well.

How are the "quitters" holding up? .... the ex-smokers that is.

Any good reports out there, or goals you want to share with us health nuts!

Just doing a monthly check up here. [Smile]
Nettie

I don't know about the rest of the ex-smokers, but Don has been doing great thus far. [Big Grin] He has given up the patches and has been nicotine free for a couple of weeks now.

Well Nettie, just a few minutes ago I was in the bathroom changing into some fresh clothes and I stopped to admire myself in the mirror before putting my shirt on. Oh, the clean shirt is also a little snug and shows off my arms, shoulders and traps nicely. Guess I'm doing OK. [Wink]

On the flipside I did go to Chili's for dinner last night and had plenty of chips and salsa plus a chicken fajita quesadilla. On my way home I stopped at the store for some groceries and bought a bag of Dove chocolates on impulse, and when I got home I split the bag in half, saving one half off to the side but eating the entire other half in one sitting.

My mom gave me a Southwest Cookbook for inspiration for food photography (my latest diversion) because it has some really nice photos in it - bless her heart. Unfortunately, I now have a shopping list of ingredients I need to make some of the stuff. Umm, yeah I only want to make it so I can practice photographing it, yeah that's the ticket. [Smile] Actually most of the recipes are pretty healthy, lots of fresh veggies and spices.

I guess I can justify my indiscretions though.

I still eat pretty healthy overall.
I go to the gym twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, doing both weight training and cardio in both sessions.
I also skate earlier in the afternoon.

I feel pretty good too.. lots of energy, no aches or pains, don't even get headaches.

Tomorrow is the fourth smoke free month. I lost a bunch of pounds, gained 15 of them back and have since lost them again.

I have lost my membership in the DickieDoo club, too... BTW, I now spend twice in gum than what I spent smoking... hahahahahaha!

I miss my workouts! My back has stayed in alignment for maybe 1/2 a week now. Maybe it's time...

I have windsor pilates dvd's and have attempted some moves in an effort to core strengthen.

Dunno what I'll do with my new laminate floors once they go in, floor will be alot harder. LOL!

I've been taking some slow walks to cody's school in the am without the dog because she pulls my hip out.

I miss the adreneline rush that comes with exercise. But a wrong move results in a $40 fee. LOL!

I'm coming up on two months without a cig, which is a good feeling all the way around. We've been going on very long walks almost daily. That wouldn't have happened not all that long ago. We've also got a membership at a very cool health club about 20 minutes from home. My goal is to get down to 225 lbs, which was my "playing" weight in college. That's about 14 lbs, so it's not unrealistic.

Donna, my mom is a massage therapist and I know what you mean about the dog pulling your hip out. She's been the same way, her arms from her shoulders down to her fingers have been completely numb for 15 years, her hip is always messed up, knees bad, neck kinked.

Massage work, accupuncture, chiropractic care, inversion tables (those things where you hang upside down by your ankles) have all given just a little temporary relief but never relieve all the pain.

Yesterday she built her own traction device. She built a sling that cradles her head, it hangs from overhead and she just bends her knees to utilize her own bodyweight to stretch her spine starting up by her neck - kinda like a noose, LOL.. but she can get more aggressive with it than the Chiro and other people can. It popped the vertebrae between her shoulders, which is somewhere the Chiropractor couldn't hit, and all her numbness and pain disappeared instantly!

Now she wants to build her own horizontal stretcher! LOL

Wow...

I love stories like that Mike. I got fed up with going once a week to physio so I got him to show me how to adjust my hip issues in a pinch.

To put my hip back in place, I have to lay on the floor on my side, good hip down. Bottom leg straight, other leg hiked up with bent knee to my chin or thereabouts. I wrap a towel behind my thigh, and pull towards me as I push that leg away. Repeat about 4 times, hold each time and progress more with knee to chin each time. I got the right side in myself at the office under his guidance but the left side was stubborn. The trick is to do this asap after the injury and it can pop back in. Can is the key word, sometimes I need someone to yank on my leg which is hard to do myself. But Cody thinks it's hilarous when he's allowed to try. [Smile]
