In a recent post Grampa Dan mentioned that he had bought and read 7 books on his recent trips.
Just wondering if anyone out there has come across and good sign, graphics, or advertising books lately?
Personally, I just bought a book called...."Times Square Style", "Graphics From the Great White Way". The book is by: Vicki Levi and Steven Heller. It's a compendium of advertising used and displayed in and around Times Square in NYC. There are some great idea starters for vintage or retro style design projects.
I'm always looking for great graphic design, sign, and art books to add to the collection. Please feel freel to add your favorites below.

The last 7 books I purchased were from Disneyland. Being the 50th anniversary there were some new titles showing the history of Disneyland including many photos of it under construction, both at the start and new attractions.
One of the books dealt with Pirates of the Carribean from the design of the attraction through the construction and the recent movie.
There is a wealth of information in these books which inspired and informed me of things I wanted to know.
Disney does everything with more detail than anybody else I know and one can learn a great deal from them while having FUN too!
I'm going to curl up with a good book tonight.... both entertaining and educational at the same time!

Not much particularly sign related material . . . but indirectly, a book called Visioneering, by Charles Stanely.
Also, a beautiful book about Scotland I got for Christmas...
Ms A., The female nomad book sounds very interesting!
At the library, I'm always drawn to biographies, just read one by Katherine Hephburn for pure entertainment . . . I've read all their interesting art and adv, books.
I LOVE reading - but don't get to read as often as I like . . . 'specially since the holidays. I do manage to scan the four magazines I get monthly which are U.S.News, Time, Saturday Evening Post, and Smithsonian.

awsome..... damn good sense of humor and whit from the author too. A great additon to a library of older books on the same subject.... this author was really influenced by old books of ad design and sign making.

...I noticed a few new DOVER art books that have CDs of vector (?) art included. For $20. These were real nice, (but thin) softcover, 100% color books on subjects like CIGAR ART and VINTAGE LABELS. Has anybody bought any yet? I'd like to know how the art on the CD looks. And how much of it there is, before I purchase.

i bought the Dover Old-Time Label Art book with CD TIFF formatted images on it. The images are not really that big but they are a great idea reference for when the brain slows down during the design process. I hope to buy a few more of them.
Then again I just love the old-timey style advertising.
Katie, that's Barbara Ehrenreich, and this is her website. It's unusual that such a good writer does a blog. Or hasn't adopted a pen name that's easy to spell.
