There is a product called SignDome you may find useful

My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone.

We made one for Avis here in Jackson. We used a metal pole that we found at a hardware store. The "U" shaped one with all the holes in it. (like the ones they use for stop signs) Then we used a metal rim from a car/truck and pour concrete in that to hold the post. This way they could roll it around when they brought it in for the night.
Other free standing sign post can be found at "Grimco".
Hope this helps

You can buy one of the metal ones (like Grimcos) but they aren't very heavy and can get blown over.
We also make our own sometimes. I've used big sonotube, plastic planters or plywood to form the base. Usually a uchannel for the post.
It's a good idea to put some type of "tie" on the bottom of the post to lock it to the concrete.
For instance with a uchannel run a few galvanized
bolts thru the bottom holes and bolt in place.
The concrete can also be stained for a nicer look ( this is a liquid mixed in the concrete before pouring).

I have used concrete deck blocks and 1 3/4" round fence posts for this. The blocks and posts are available at building supply yards. Deck blocks are approximately 15"x15" and 12"high. They have a 2" round hole top to bottom and a cross shape removed from the top 6". The cross is there to take a 4x4 when used for building raised decks without puting holes in the ground.

Put the post in the hole, mix up a 1/2 bag of cement and pour it into the cross. May want some cardboard or wood form around the edges to keep the concrete in. I use 4 pieces of cardboard wrapped in duct tape. Let it sit overnight and you have stand alone sign stands that are just the right weight to withstand wind and move around reasonably easy.

You will also have to drill some holes in the top of the round fence post to attach your sign.

Last summer I made up 6 of them in about 3 hours. I got about $80 each for 5 of them and kept the 6th one as a demonstrator.
