Would anyone know of any glassblowing classes near the vicinity of northern Illinois? I did a search a while back but it was difficult to locate via internet. I had to wade through the adobe readers and only came up with one school through a college. Is there an easier way? thanks!

Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois has a glass department in the Fine Arts Department and a very good one at that! The original founder (Joel Myers) is world famous. The glass house is in a seperate building from the main fine arts area and is a state of the art studio. It is an amazing place and awesome to watch them work... (I was a jewlery major there and ran around with some of the glass people.) http://www.cfa.ilstu.edu/art/undergraduate/glass.shtml I don't know what you mean by a "class". I think they offer summer stuff, but you would almost have to be accepted into ISU and the fine art department to do that. I think you have to submit a portfolio etc. Most of the glass blowing classes that I know of are going to be that way. It is a pretty expensive, dangerous "hobby" and there is a pretty long learning curve, from what I saw.

Hi Deb, I know it's a long drive, but in Corning, NY (20 miles from my shop)at the Corning Museum of Glass, you canblow glass! They just made me two pieces to raffle at my party! Starting next month, I'm going to start blowing glass with a "world class" glass blower. We are making some vessles, where we will experiment with glue chipping on the inside of a piece! Just remember........when blowing glass, the first rule: Don't Inhale!!

That is cool Tony! I was there to the Corning Glass factory in the early 80's but it was just a tour. Wish I would have been able to participate! That sound like just the ticket for you glass-blower wanna-be's.

It is quite a drive from the city but in Farmer City, IL there is a glass blowing studio. I have seen some really cool pieces come out of there, every thing from sculpture pieces to vessels.

Can't help you out with any info, but I used to love watching glass blowers at the state fair here in Tampa back in the 50's and 60's. I thought that was the coolest thing. Does anybody else remember those guys?
